one fell off and got stuck in the throttle linkage while going.down the
freeway
making for a quick key off pullover.

If it was work good then replace the chain assembly.

Right. Go to a hardware store and get a length of bead chain.

I you are worried about tangling the chain in the throttle linkage, cover the chain with a piece of electrical spaghetti or shrink tubing. Leave the
end 2" or 3" uncovered on both ends. That way there is flexibility on the ends and the middle will be stiff. I have also seen steel or copper
tubing used.

The OEM has a piece of about 3/16 rigid tubing over the chain. It moves with the chain, it isn't connected at either end. It keeps the chain from
fouling the linkage. You saw the result of it being missing.

I just put in a Rostra universal from summit. Well worth the cost at around 300. Simple afternoon install if you're competent.
Jim sells the same one with some of the "tweaks" done for you for 400.

My vacuum unit worked but it was fussy and difficult to get to engage reliably. I also really missed the bump up and down feature that I've become so
reliant upon. Rostra fixed that.

My 23' had the OEM control, which I liked. The 'fussy' usually turns out to be a corroded switch on the turn signal stalk - Chuck Boyd sent me
another one and I had no further problems. The current coach has the Rostra installed. It works well but has features I don't use. Since it was
there when I bought the coach I'm not going to change it.
One caveat about Bounds' instructions for mounting the unit... DON'T mount it with a blind bolt. One day you will want to take it off for maintenance
and the bolt will spin. This makes it a total P I A to remove. Ask me how I know this.

If you really want a great cruise control, cheep, do this:
http://www.gmcmhphotos.com/photos/g4776-cruise-control-ac-delphi-electro-motor.html

Ray Swartzendruber and I also did that installation at about the same time
as John. I think Ray used a later model multifunction switch without
changes. I chose an even simpler method: An RF remote control: a
two-button fob on the left spoke of my S-15 steering wheel controlling a
$13.50 receiver beneath the dash. Works great, including the usual
set/coast & increase/resume functions.

Total cost, MAYBE $30, using an Electromotor II from 'most any '90's GM
pickup.

Does the 78 Eleganza have an indicator light in the water pump switch? It
looks like it should but I can't tell if it did or not. I'm chicken and
don't want to tear the switch apart to find out.

Yes, it does. It is an incandescent bulb. I took mine apart and replaced it with a LED and a resistor long ago.

I also replaced the bulb in mine about 10 years ago. I do not remember if I used a LED or a normal bulb.

Due to complaints from my child sleeping on the dinette, I did the opposite. I took it apart and removed the bulb. To each his own, right?

All right, you guys have got to stop picking on senile old farts.
What I was trying to say was that Photo Bucket is no longer free.
And if you want access to your existing photos, you must pay.
With my limited computer abilities, it's not my problem.

Gary, it is so seldom that any comments on the GMCNET get praise like
"profound" that the ones of us who don't participate in the forum or heaven
forbid Facebook, might want to see what that comment was. All I got was

It was a totally empty message. That is what was so profound about it 😁

Sometimes, parts of messages get dropped off between the forum and the

Jim,

The guys are just poking me, which I deserve. The original message ended
in my Outbox without getting in the Sent Items. I don't know how the blank
message got in there. I'll just claim it was late at night and both the
computer
and me are getting old and decrepit. BUT, both still operational.
