I think your "4 Amp" fuse is doing what it is designed to do...open when
more than 4 amps passes thru it. If you look in the maintenance manual &
on the fuse block you will find that the OEM Dash Lites require a "20
amp" fuse to function since there are so many lamps on that circuit. Try
replacing the 4 amp fuse with a 20 amp fuse & see if it holds. If not,
contact me off Net (simmee) for additional comments.

Duane, I wish it were just a fuse difference but it looks like both ends of
fuse socket are shorted together?
I have not gone much futher than this....well I did look under the dash at
the vast arrary of wires but did not get any further.....

Still kind of waiting for suggestions....besides tonight was softball and
beer and I didn't want to start pulling wires after that....

Tanks...

Well the short in my dash lights WAS in the switch. I pulled the connector
on the switch and the short went away. I replugged and it is no longer
shorted but the dash lights do NOT work either. I have not gone any further
than this, I was considering wiring the dash lights up separately from the
light switch. Just having them on full bright when the light switch is on.

Does anyone know which wires to the light switch control the dash lights. I
can figure this out myself but if anyone has a wiring diagram that would
help.

Chris,

Looks like a dark green wire goes from terminal 2 of the light switch to the
4A fuse for the dash lights (1977 wiring diagram). Hook it up to terminal 7
of the light switch (park lights).

I now have voltage across the 4A fuse. I connected the green wire to one of
the wires that produced 12V when the parking lights were turned on.
Unfortunately I don't see any light on the instruments? I suppose I have to
check the bulbs next? Is there a replacement available?

Thanks again.

Chris,

Make sure you have 12V at the gray wires going to the printed circuit
connectors - they feed the dash lights. Test for voltage to a good ground
rather than "across the fuse". Test the instrument cluster ground (looking
at the wiring diagram, it has a bunch of black wires going to it)

Just some ideas,
