NEWBIE: Replace Fuel Line from Fuel Tank to Onan

O hi there!

Having to replace my fuel line from my Tank to my Onan. My GMC is a 1973 Canyon Land.

I have never worked on my Fuel tanks before so I am asking for some advice/input. I have been reading the GMC - X7425 Main Manual.

The diagrams are good, but the photos are almost black. No luck there..

I have been told that I might be able to put my "small" hand in between and pull the line from the tank without lowering the tank. Not sure if this is
going to work or not.

Are there any photo posted on the forums that would show me some tricks to get this done?

The way to get it done is drop the tanks and do it correctly with new barrier hose, if this hasn't been done. If you can reach in and remove the old
hose and fit a new piece remember, it goes tonear the bottom of the tank and thus should be secured with a clamp

I just finished reinstalling my tanks. I added an extension to the onan fuel pick up BUT I think you are correct that a small hand could install a
new fuel line on the barbed fitting without dropping the tank. Be sure to get good fuel hose and you may need a long extension with a small socket to
tighten up the hose clamp in the small space above the tank don't over tighten it. A mirror may help you see what you are doing but a video scope
would make it much easier if you have one.

Good luck getting it done with the tank in place. Dropping the tank is not bad but messing with all the vent and fuel lines is kind of a pain.

For goodness sake. The tanks are not that hard to take down. put the coach up on ramps like these.

That puts it up high enough to use a floor jack under it. Bolt a 16" X 16" piece of plywood to the floor jack. Drain the tanks, loosen the old fuel
lines, unbolt the brackets holding the tanks up and drop the tanks with the floor jack. Roll them out and replace the Ines. IMHO replace them with
steel lines. Done right, you will never have to do them again. While you are in there, stick your fuel pumps in the tanks, and go a long way to
eliminating vapor lock. Illuminate the fuel selection valve and control the two pumps with the same tank selector switch on the dash. Do these things
the first time, and make it the last. JMHO
