Chris,
The question I have is does the tranny still work ok? Had you removed
the pan when you changed the fluid last time? Your always going to find
some silver dust and maybe some filings each time you change the filter,
just natural wear. Before I would change out the tranny I might go
another 3K miles and check pan again.

Chris,
Some other symptom must have caused you to drop the transmission pan after
only 3,000 miles. The tranny may have been abused by a PO. My transmission
has never been out with over 100k on it and it works well. I've been told
that there is virtually no wear on one of these transmissions in normal use.
Can we hear from others that may have high mileage? Unless it is slipping
or not shifting properly, I'd run it longer. Good luck.

Mike,
Let's hear about the disasters too. Mine probably lasts because I use
second gear a lot for climbing and deceleration. How about it folks?

Bob

I think this is going to be a very short list

Chris, if you dropped the pan yourself and saw metal filings, etc then I
would believe you MAY have a problem.

I am naturally skeptical about anything I don't see with my own eyes and
feel with my own fingers. Myth or not I have been told that it is not
uncommon for unethical transmission repair shops to toss a few metal
particles into the pan when they remove it for inspection.

I hope your tranny is good and only needs a tuneup.

I have just over 100K on the original tranny and its shifts like new.
Service every 10-12k with new fluid and filter. Cheap insurance!

My OEM transmission gave up the ghost at 127,000 miles. Prior to that, I
had the external seals replaced and was told I needed to replace the
internal one's but, didn't. At this point, my poor old worn out engine was
using 1 and 1/2 quarts of Valvoline 50 weight racing oil to a tank of gas,
so, everything between the front wheels was replaced.
