Ok, went out to shop for tires in the Rochester, NY area. Seems we
have the greediest tire dealers in the US or they have a conspiracy
going on. They must figure that since we pay $1.18 a gallon for regular
that we still have a lot of money left over for tires.

The Bridgestones R265 225/75 E 16s were quoted at !$165.00 each at the
Firestone store, $153.00 plus ballancing and $5 tire recycleing fee
at NTB.

After reading the email here that seems very high. Any comments or any
mail order sources that are out there would be appreciated. When I told
them that I had seen "friends" quoted $110 they laughed and said to go
see my "friends".

By the way, I got stalled on packing the light order (my wharehouse guy
went on vacation) so they will start to out this week.

Paul:

Did you have any problems with your local people getting them mounted
and balanced?

Marcus

Marcus:

Not at all. Had Discount Tire do it.

However, when you have them balanced, make sure you find out if the shop
has the tape-on vs. clip-on style weights. The clip-on style, commonly
used on most vehicle wheels, is dissimilar metal as compared to the
aluminum wheels. This causes galvanic action (i. e. corrosion) behind
the clip with time, resulting in a loss of the aluminum metal.

After the tape on style weights are installed, which are mounted on the
back side of the wheel rim, run a bead of silicone sealant around their
perimeter so that water, etc., does not loosen the adhesive.
