New Subject

My family and I have owned many MH... Most have had a separate Gray water
tank... the only reason I can see for a separate tank is to flush out the
common drain pipe... I never, never dumped the gray without the black or
vise versa.... so why should they be separate.

Since I only Macerate, I cannot see a good reason to have separate tanks.
There was an article in last months AAA Highways mag. ( I think it is AAA)
where they said a good way to Boondock for a long time is to dump your dish
water into the toilet because the gray tank always fills up first. Does
this make sense??

No one will let you dump the gray onto the ground, so you have to dump in
the same place as the black, why not in the same tank and at the same time?

Our rigs are sized such that when you are out of water, your black tank is
full.... no run over problems. I think our system is ok, the dump pipe is
really dumb, but it is 20 years old. Hurrah for the Macerator, it makes
the system work.

This is the way I see it after 30 years of RV experience. I am sure there
is at least one other opinion.

OK Gene you got me here. I had earlier decided to become a lurker, but what
you said got to me. I could not resist making a comment.

As I see it, a major problem with my '76 Palm Beach is the puny holding tank.
Plus the fact that the water tank (40 gals) is larger then the holding tank (32
gals).

I am real sure that the water tank holds more then the holding tank. That fact
was confirmed one day while driving with an empty holding tank and a full water
tank. My crazy neighbor George (the original owner of a 23' '73 Canyon Lands)
used the toilet and left the water pump running and the bathroom sink faucet
on. When we stopped for lunch I found that I had an empty water tank and about
1" of blue water sloshing around the floor of the bath module. Thank goodness
the stuff on the floor was only blue water! I'm worried one day that it won't
be just blue water on the floor!

In my opinion I think GM screwed up big time on that setup! The odd thing is
that my neighbor's '73 supposedly has a 40 gal holding tank to match the water
tank. Why did GM go to a smaller waste tank later?

the little shelf under the toilet down pipe.. This is a great place to
start a backup.

Since I am having trouble with my black tank dump valve, , I will change
the tank this summer for a larger one without the shelf.

If you use water from your own supply
you will normally run out of water
when the waste tank is full.

If you are using water from a campground
or other source you should be able to hook
up your drain line to the campground sewer.

If you have a bigger water tank than waste
tank save a pitcher of water to wash your feet.

What do you mean by " Little shelf under the toilet
downspout..In the tank??? If so could that be a splash
deflector to stop sewage from splashing out of the
tank??? I think I would leave the shelf in if thats the case.
Just a thought.
