Just received word from Glenn Plymate apparently he cannot download all
of the digest because his computer is old or something like that. Any
way he would like two parking light packages also; his email address is
gplymate I don't know if it will be encrypted or what so if
you want to ship them to me with mine and confirm this at my email

Question: I just had my motor taken apart. This is the 455 Tornado
built for the GMC motorhome and had about 87K on it whe it spun the
number 8 rod bearing and cracked a couple rings in number 4 and 5
cylinder. In looking at the heads after removal and cleaning Tom Green
of Rural machine pointed out marks showing up just below the spark plug
screw hole. He felt that the plug was trying to ground itself or ????
could water get in and do this also??? The marks do not look too bad
but compared to other heads they do not show any of these lines or
imprefections. The lines are about 1/8 to 1/4 inche from the hole going
down the head towards the bottom or where the oil would be. Is it
possible that if anti seize were used on the plugs could this result in
this sort of damage. I have alsways changed the plugs at between 5 and
6 thousand miles but nerev looked inside the heads. I also use the
Jacobs Electronic Booster and gap at .85 thousandths with the ceramic
boots with boot lube (silicone) and the high temperature Jacobs wires.
Need some feed back on the strange lines or marks on the inside of the
head near each spark plug hole. Thanks chuck
PS has any body used the Dough Thornley Header on their 455 or 403 and
are you happy with them. I was up to Mondellos this afternoon and they
are listed at about 320.00 which seem like a deal to me.
Are these on the outside or inside of the head? If inside could be caused
by pre detonation, either due to timing or poor fuel (to low octance). It
can cause piston rings to bust and stress cracks on the heads. Never heard
of using anti seize on spark plug threads.
