New Orleans in the Summer of 2019 - What campground?

Hi,

we will travel from Virginia over Florida to New Orleans, to be in New
Orleans in the first week of August 2019.

Anyone know of a nice camping spot, with good public transport into the
city?

It all depends on what kind of budget you’re are working with. I know there’s 1 or 2 right in the heart of the city but it’s not cheap. We stayed at Bayou Segnette in Westego, about a 15mins from the ferry(foot traffic only) that drops you off right in front of the mall. The state park was really nice and reasonably priced. Can’t speak to the public transport to the ferry. We drove our rig to the ferry and parked it in the dirt parking lot. We did that twice and had zero problems while leaving the camper for hours on end. The ferry is in a “nicer” part of town and the attendants were wicked nice. Hope this helps a little. Safe travels.

ponchartrain landing is also our favorite spot there. But you might have to use Uber to get to the French quarter. It's about 3 miles away. They have
a great bar/restaurant also.
There is one right next to the French quarter called French Quarter RV resort. But it sits virtually under the 10 freeway and gets very loud. Reviews
aren't the best for this place..

New Orleans in August is oppressively HOT and wet, it will rain everyday in the afternoon for a few minutes to make sure that the humidity is right at the top.! We used to call it 98/98 which means the temp is at least 98F and the Humidity is at least 98%, Plan your activities in the early morning or after dark. Best to be within walking distance, because parking can be a true pain in the !!!! Where loose fitting clothing and comfortable shoes. Make sure that your AC is working well and you cannot survive without it. I lived in Baton Rouge for 11 years 78 thru 89. It used to be a nice to go down to the French Quarter, but is is somewhat now a tourist trap. Some of the restaurants are worth visiting. Not inexpensive thought.

Suggest the “Court of Two Sisters”, do the Jazz brunch or the dinner menu in the evening sitting out in the courtyard.

By all means go to Cafe Du Mode just off Jackson Square and have some chocolate milk or coffee ( Caf’e au last ) and Beignets dusted in powered sugar.

Was brewed in NO then Katrina came and destroyed the museum and brewery and now plans to come back and rebuild.

Do not stay at the KOA in Sidel. It is a dump.
Limited options in New Orleans. We stayed at a park in West New Orleans. Packed in like sardines. And, priced like a resort. Not really recommended.
However, there are very limited options available for the area, and the more reasonable priced ones are loaded with transit oil field workers.

If you have a toad, stay out further and drive in. Otherwise, bite the bullet and stay at the $100 a night rv park in the French Quarter. You can walk
to everything from there.

Another area recommendation for restaurants and cool areas would be Frenchman's Street. Right next to the French 1/4 on the east part. It's the not as
much touristy part of NO. MAKE SURE YOU GO TO ADOLFO'S!!! In the Frenchman's street. Lamb chops with the ocean sauce!!! My goooodness!!! Try to
get there early for seating, then stay in that local area for libations And music!!

Be sure and go to the WWII museum. Well worth the time. Post when you are there. NO is not too far for a visit.
