Ellsworth Maine
Hi All!
My wife and I (after a long search) purchased a 76 Eleganza II. We are from Maine so we had to look all over. Very few on the east coast. Bought what we thought was a keeper last September but was horribly mislead by the PO in SoCal. We did our homework but the Owner/dealer sent us old video and pics. I won't belabor it here ,long story short, We flew to Cal, bought the 78 Royale , limped to a hotel, called a previously interested party that was still interested. Met him the next day 100m north. He and his wife bought it shortcomings and all. We flew home with our tails between our legs and had covid by the time we got home. Fast fwd to mid Dec, snowstorms and all. We located Ellie in Chicago. The previous owner , after 42 yrs was giving up the GMC life. He purchased it in 1980 and maintained it properly. Stored it in a heated hanger and used it. The interior received a Cinnabar upgrade but other than that she's bone stock. We hope to keep her that way with only safety upgrades. It drove quite nice coming to downeast Maine . 1400 miles in a day and a half ,trial by 🔥. Now we can't wait for spring to get going with her. We don't know of any others in Maine but there must be a few. We hope to meet some fellow GMC ers this year. Looking fwd to some get-togethers also!. We hope your winer is going smoothly. Hope to see ya on the road! Or at meets!

Jimbo,
Welcome to the group, family, cult, asylum.....
This from another from the East Coast. I spent too much time in that megopolis that is south of Kittery point.
Both us and yourself a favor here and load a sigfile. It should have your name so it is not awkward when we meet, a short about your coach and a geographic reference. I know how big Maine is, when I lived there I didn't have an address, nobody near by did either.

Now, what you may not know is that your "new" coach has a value far above it being an big new toy. It connects you to this community and that is a very valuable thing. Yes, there is only one GMC Assist listing in Maine and he is not there full time, but there are others in New Hampshire and Massachusetts. The real value is not even just having a collection of brand new old friends, but the advice and guidance you can get here and at the old forum. If you do get advice from someone on Farce Brook, get someone knowledgeable to confirm it.

Be real ready, the people here are not New Englanders and may come on a bit strong, but this is because it is just like the community of the coastal watermen. From our point of view, you are another old friend that need to know better. They want to see you survive. Friends that don't survive are not a lot of value in the long run.

We also all have a very open and real agenda. We want to see to it that you get to enjoy both the coach and what she can do for you. You will discover more as time goes.

Oh Yes, and get a good (non-powered) grease gun with a lock n load coupler and several tubes of Valvoline VV985. It isn't cheap, but it is way cheaper than parts. There are 14 grease nipples in the OE front end and there may be more now. The 4 or 8 on the bogies should get hit about every 1Kmiles.

One final piece of advice from an experienced owner. She is reliable and safe to drive? Don't change anything other than scheduled PM until you are sure it will be an improvement.
