Hi Arch. When I talked to Jim Kanomata in Rayne, he said that the mileage
shouldn't change, or at least, be minimal. I still am trying to decide what to
change first. Go to the four bag system or change to the 3.55 that Jim sells.

Arch,
I'm with you on the gear ratio change. I don't think it's needed. The 3.07
seems real flexible to me and, quite frankly, the 4.6 ratio I get with
shifting to second doesn't provide all that much more get up and go. It's
nice for climbing those 45 mile and hour hills without overheating but it
takes a set amount of horsepower to travel at any particular speed, incline
and wind condition regardless of your gear ratio. That's the biggest
determinant of gas mileage.

Well, if there is no mileage change then this project has mover way down
on my list of things to do. I know some of you have stated that you can
now get away from a stop sign much faster. Well, after 5 years of driving
a 2.2 liter engine pulling a 6000 pound motorhome this 455 feels real strong
to me. Heck I can spin the wheels on my gravel driveway if I am not careful.

Arch asked: Has anybody put in different gears and got better mileage? If
so what did you put in? I honestly thought some of the new gear ratios
would have lead to better mileage.

I put in Marvin Peck's 3:46 gear 5 years ago, no increase in gas mileage, I
just get up and over the mountains faster.
