Am I missing something, or do we have to find engines with comparable
rpm's to the 455 to replace
them with?

Sounds like a good idea at first glance but in order to use the engine
effectively you would certaintly have to change to a numerically higher
gear ratio. The T425 transmission is a lot stronger than the newer
4L60E's. It's still part of the T400 family which nearly all will agree
is one of the toughest transmissions ever built.
