New Engine on the way

I lunched the mill - poorly rebuilt Jasper engine, made it ~~ 30K miles and unloaded a rod bearing. At the rally in Chattanooga, I made a deal with
John Richardson for the engine out of the fire, being rebuilt by John Beavers in Americus. I have Chuck's trolley to go out n in from the top, I've
no good place to jack the coach that far. Plus I'm fed with taking transmissions out and back - I'll leave the transmission be. The new engine will
get the new Mercedes fan, controlled by the Atomic MSD fuel injection controller. As soon as it quits raining disassembly will begin with the interior
bunks, seats, and dinette. Which I will likely have reupholstered while they're out. I should be done by the time the rally and Barry Owens shop
trip comes up. I ain't missing that one if I have to engage the Motel Sleaze... but I think the coach will be roadworthy by then.

Johnny,
Support the final drive with a hydraulic jack. Once the engine is free
from the tranny (locating pins), raise the final drive so as to tilt the
transmission back to clear the flexplate from the bell housing. This helps
when installing engine too.

Thanks. Chuck's trolley has a tilting plate which will get used. And, fo that tilt, we'll loosen the rear mounts (but not take the bolts out) which
also helps stuff the transmission in with the engine set.

Johnny, just support the transmission/final drive assembly where it lies
after you raise the engine up to clear the front mount studs. Do it
preferably with a mechanical threaded support rather than a hydraulic one.
They tend to leak down or to raise further when the engine load is removed.
Save a bit of busted knuckles trying to line up that new freshly painted
engine.

Fortunately my cheeep bottle jack (Freight, Harbor 8 ton) doesn't go either way when the load changed. Although if the flyuid tries to foam when you
[pump a jack, it will do both due to the air in the working fluid. The fluid isn't compressible, but air is. Consequently, if your jack sags, the
valve is seeping. We call that a French jack, my flooe jack does unles you really crank on the valve. With the radiator out and the compressor moved
out of the way, it ought to come and go reasonably easy. I'll have you know I can successfully put the engine and trans unit back in a Bugeye without
having to cut anything :)

So after some hiatus for personal stuff, I'm back at it. Stripped the interior yesterday and the carpet today. All the interior want to Tim's
Upholstery, he does most of the high line and custom stuff around here. Very light biege textured vinyl to go on the bunks and the dinette and the
panels which cover under them. Gonna put snap together flooring in place of the carpet which isn't worth cleaning. Then we'll replace the removed
cabinet with the repaired back. Meantimes the trolley goes in, and the lunched mill comes out. Then off to Americus for the new one.
