I need to get setup to (initially) tow the wife's 1980 MGB LE. Later I want
to tow a VW (permanently).

I have looked at the equipment at Camping World but am not sure what I need
to buy.

Any suggestions will be very much appreciated. Whatever I do must be
completed before Thanksgiving week so I gonna' get a move on.

Tom, you might have some trouble getting a mounting bracket for the MG.
The following links might get you started. Also check out
http://motorhome.tl.com/tech/98dinghy/98dinghy_outfit.html for some tips
on outfitting a Toad. I'd start with P&E first for a bracket to fit the
MG. I understand they work with people on unusual configurations. I
think Dave Greenberg had them do his Saturn(not that the Saturn is
unusual).

HI Tom. You did not say whether or not your MB was automatic or stick. I use
the EAGLE Tow Bar and the mounting bracket permanently bolts to the fram of the
ASPIRE. I used to tow one of the 56 F-100s but there is some damage to the
towed vehicle. Dirt, rocks etc. You should think about stuffing the towed
vehicle air cleaner with rags to keep the dirt out of the filter. Plus the
engine compartment gets pretty dirty too. One of those covers that go over the
painted front end might work ok or a shield or something like that. I just
hooked up and went. The Eagle is advertised in several of the RV mags. I
think it was several hundred dollars with the brackets. Once the brackets are
on they are hardly noticeable when you are unhooked. One person can hook it up
to. The wiring might be a trick. So I had Ford do that because of all the
diodes etc. in the newer systems. If you have a front wheel transmission and
it is automatic. REMCO makes an oiler that can be mounted to the tow vehicle
system and the wiring goes into the standard socket for both of the vehicles.
You need to have an auxiliary switch for you battery so it can be turned off
when the key is turned on inside the tow vehicle too. I think that should
about cover the various things to think about. Chuck

Tom, go to P & E Industries web site. www.rvtowing.com/

They make a broad line of towing euipt.

I would guess the two vihicles will require different adapter bars and
that is expensive. I know that VW's take one of two to bar adapters
depending on whether the front axel is IFS or ot. I think that is right.
