Where are you located Jim?

You'll find that the GMC net will be a good source for undated information
on everything
related to GMC restorations. You're going to overwhelmed with info.

Most of the coach's I've seen have the rear compartment converted to a
permanent or semi-permanent bed. Ours is semi-permanent. We have a 6"
cotton mattress on the folded down mini couches back there. (Very
comfortable!). It's so big though, if we need the extra seating, we've got
to take it out and leave the it at home. Gene Fisher has a really kewl way
of making it permanent and still have some great storage underneath. See
it at:
http://www.gmcmotorhome.com/tech/tiltbed/index.html

Here's a great place to find a bunch of GMC's for sale. Use the keyword
GMC with a year range of 1973 to 1978 at:
http://www.traderonline.com/rv/search/index.shtml

http://www.thriftynickel.com/

http://www.adquest3d.com/main.cfm?brd=1&pag=17

and of course, all the GMC web sites that are linked from Patrick's.

Good Luck!

I have a unit (26ft) that had facing dinette table which made into bed.
Removed that and put in full size mattress. Like that but person on window
side has to crawl over one nearest bathroom. That is the only
inconvenience. If having rear bed with walk space important, then go for
it. Wife and I don't mind crawling over each other.

Itwould nearly impossible for anyone to suggest what might work for you
and your family.

I tried the original gauchos in the rear and they were terrible. I then
went to a full sized bed with a real box spring and it was uncomfotable
for us older folk who arise during the nite and it was a bear for the
Missus to make the bed.

Now we have twins beds/couches up front and that suits us to a "T".
Howver if I were looking today I would buy a GMC finished Edgemonte or a
Coachman finished Royale (both 26' models) and with twin beds in the
rear.

That's what I would do.

I converted to twin sized mattresses; I can arise any time I feel like it
without bothering anyone!!

Is Dave bragging or complaining? Gives new meaning to the expression "Happy

This time I'm not trying to be a smart donkey !
What exactly do you mean >
Removed queen size and put in two twins ? How did this affect the
situation?
If I can't resolve the 'crawl over' I'm going to have to add some
footage to my Kingsley to get a 'walk around' . At least that's my
story around here, as I polish up my tourches :-)

Mike--
My '77 Kingsley (floor plan 26-12 on
http://www.gmcmotorhome.com/faq/GMC26Interior.html ) had two 74" long
twin beds in the rear. The "beds" were skimpy foam pads on an inferior
spring frame --- most uncomfortable. The foam and frame were discarded
and a sturdy plywood top was added to the "boxes" covering the propane
and generator enclosures and the water and compressor systems. The top
was screwed down for easy removal if necessary and hinged access hatches
were provided for servicing the water and compressors. I purchased new
standard "bunk" innerspring mattresses (32 x 72) which fit nicely. I am
very comfortable with this arrangement (6'2" x 240#). You can buy
standard fitted sheets for this size mattress....very easy to make the
bed. I think the 26-12 floor plan is the only one with enough space
(74") for rear twins --- something the wantabes may consider when
looking.

It does sound kind of erotic now that I look at it again! [g]

I am really beginning to regret I "raised" this issue!

Da.........
No wonder I was confused. Your 26-12 came with twin beds !
I have the 26-11. I guess you can see why I was scratching my
head over your solution to the problem.
Now , to the tourches :-)
