Before I purchase a new water pump I would like to know the source of
information indicating that the correct water pump should be 4-1/4"
diameter, have a cast iron impeller with a backing plate (part #
412265-D24).The water pump I removed, which had been working fine, looks
just like the one Arch recieved from Cinnabar. I called my local Napa
dealer who had a 412265 water pump in stock. when we opened the box the
pump was brand new and looked like the one I just removed.I told him I
was sorry but I wanted the 4-1/4 diameter as advised by the GMC
gurus.
On my recent quest for a 100amp alternator, I was also in search of a new
NAPA waterpump. However, the NAPA's that I called didn't have any reference
to the 412265-d24. They suggested that I purchase a 551120 (and this is
indeed the number in the parts interchange index). Is this the correct
pump? It was for a 455 Olds with air conditioning. The cost varied from $48
to $55 between stores (shades of Autozone) and was a new pump. I purchased
it (at the higher cost of course!) but haven't installed it as yet. The
impeller measures 3.5 inches and the pump looks like the picture that Arch
posted at http://www.gcbr.com/H20pump.jpg. However, the impeller in the
pictures looks larger than the impeller on the pump that I purchased.
