While "declared or agreed value" insurance may be important for some
coaches with extensive (read expensive) up grades, It's not as important
for the majority of our "well maintained & somewhat upgraded" units. Most
insurance policies limit their coverage to actual cash value (ACV), and use
guides like NADA to help determine what they will offer in the event of a
total. If we maintain a reasonably up to date set of photos and good
records of the maintenance, repairs and upgrades to our coaches, we'll be
in a strong position to contest an unreasonably low settlement offer. Since
ours falls into this more common category, we've decided to cover it for
ACV.

Note: the above is based upon competent (albeit pro bono) leagal advice.

Regarding rates, we changed from Good Sam (National General)to Camping
World MVP (National Alliance) two years ago when the latter was offering
significantly lower rates. At the time, I confirmed that Good Sam (GS)
could not even approach the Camping World (CW) rates. Prior to this year's
renewal, I again requested a quote from GS to confirm CW's favorable rates
and was surprised to discover that the situation had reversed. GS quoted
$413 for 6 months coverage compared to $568 from CW for the same coverage.
Appearantly, the originally favorable rates for CW's coverage was a
"teaser" rate and had increased, while the rates from GS had held more
steady, or even declined. Needless to say, we changed back to GS (National
General).

Point: If you're insured with Camping World's National Alliance, you might
want to get a quote from Good Sam. $300 / year buys a lot of gas!

Something is way out of kilter with your quoted rates. I just renewed my
policy with RV Alliance. STATED VALUE ($30,000) coverage of twice the listed
ACV , $500K liability/$500K bodily injury plus road service. Premium for A
FULL YEAR $382. Of course we live in Oregon where cost of everything (except
the scenery) is less than Santa Barbara.

Gary,

Oops, I forgot to mention that those figures also include our '96 Caravan
and '97 Tracker. The GMC's share for Good Sam is $108 for 6 months. Camping
World would have $146.
