Hi All, (long response)
My mention of the use of a wetting agent was not an open question on the
qualities of Antifreeze, water pump lubricant and anti rust or other Auto
cooling 101 topics. It was a simple request if anybody has tried it in their
GMC. The most common Surfactant is made by Red Line.It is used by Porsche
and other club racers. Some use it with distilled water only, to replace
glycol based antifreeze which could cause a slippery condition if spilled on
a racetrack. Others have used it in addition to the normal anti-freeze
distilled water mixture in water cooled cars to maximize mixture. The
results have been reported as a decrease in maximum temp because of better
heat transfer. This is not a "mouse milk" product nor a "snake oil". I
believe this might be new valuable technology some may find useful in their
GMC. Two years ago I mentioned here the product known as Equal to balance
tires, I was concerned about the loss of 2 Drum weights on my GMC, and threw
that product out as an alternative to new drums, or "on vehicle speed
balancing". I got no response ,except where to buy new drums. Now many are
using it and extolling its virtues.
I am concerned that many times Newcomers to the net see a pat almost child
on knee, not well thought out answer to many requests. This may cause them to
disregard sometime excellent suggestions or just reasonable alternatives.
By the way , I appreciate the suggestions on Darrens' aluminum
replacements, or two rear cabinets. I just am trying to find the OEM,
louvered overcouch cabinet. It's not life or death just nice to have.
