Tell me why I had to leave the GMC and come indoors at dusk tonight because
the mosquitoes were eating me alive. It was 68*F today and note the date:
October 23rd.!!
This ain't natural ...............

Glad to see that all of those mosquitoes I sent north finally made it there. I'm finally getting even for all of that cold air Canada has and will
send south this winter.

We haven't seen mosquitoes at all this year. It looks like we did a good job sending them north.

This has been a mild mosquito year. However the last two years i gave found a few things to make camping around mosquitos a little more tolerable.

1st is some expensive mosquito control spray i pick up from clarke mosquito control company:

https://www.clarke.com/mosquito-products

They happen to have an office in the same industrial park.

Lastly, the thermocell stuff actually works.

We have a few of those around but I never see more than one at a time. I usually see them in October. I saw one on my truck a few days ago. I never
worried much about them as there are not that many of them and I have never seen them inside.

Good luck with the bugs.

You can't beat generic mosquito coils, they work quite well, last for 6
hours and cost about 30 cents each.
Sent from North Florida where we have mosquitoes that are almost as fast as
flies. 20 or more years ago
the mosquitoes were large and slow, not any more!

We are only bothered by the Asian lady beetle when the neighbor plants soybeans.
This year our bumper crop is Box Elder Bugs. It is the worst I've seen it the 13 years we've lived here. SHMBO does not like bugs bigtime. Chloe,
our bird, freaks out when she sees one.

We had almost no mosquitos this year. Between the two I'll take the bugs as they don't draw blood and carry diseases.

Ive noticed that too. Obviously we've killed all the slow ones and selected the fast skittish ones.

I know that mosquitoes are attracted to warm carbon dioxide emissions.
Several backyard traps have c02 generators to attract them. Let's see,
"what releases large amounts of c02 near a GMC?" Could it be beer? Nahhh,
probably not. (Grin) My particular insect dislike is yellow jackets.

Jim,

I have a mosquito catcher in Sydney that is hooked up to an LPG bottle and generates copious amounts of Co2. The mozzies fly to it
and get stuck on strips of "flypaper" that are 2" wide and 10" long.

Speaking of yellow jackets, remember the video of Robin Hood running from the bees!

Lady bugs are our friends. A very efficient predator on other undesirable bugs. Love bugs are the ones to hate. When they are in season, their crushed
bodies release an acid that will eat the paint off your GMC. Plus, they are difficult to remove when crushed on your vehicles. We had two seasons of
these wicked bugs this year.
Best for mosquitos is to have someone in your party that they prefer the taste of better than you.

While I appreciate all suggestions and recommendations, I may have solved
all my problems on my own...I'll stay indoors until it snows and drink
beer. No bug irritation! When the snow gets here, I'll switch to rum. That
will do two things, keep me warm and prevent me from walking outside in the
cold to the GMC !

Mike in NS...another motorcycle day!

We too suffer the mosquito issue back here in KC. My area I live is tucked back in the woods and it is pretty bad towards the evening. I bought one
of these mosquito traps you plug in and apparently has a light and a vapor it omits to attract the little buggers and then a vacuum that pulls them
into the trap. Amazon gave it high ratings. I have not set it up yet. Think I'll wait till next season since it's starting to get cold back here.

The one thing we recently really been hit with are Oak Mites. Those things are nasty little things. Microscopic and because of that can go air born
and apparently penetrate your clothes to bite you. Then the bite mark is larger than a mosquito and last longer. When we've gotten the bits, which
can amount to 15 or more on your body, it gets pretty itchy. We've all discovered a product you can get at Walmart that is called Chiggerets, or
something of that sort. It's an ointment you rub straight onto the bite and it will take away the itch and seem to make the bite mark go away
quicker.

Anyhow, didn't know if anyone has experience those little buggers.

We have a small black fly about 1/2 the size of a standard house fly. They
hatch in late spring/early summer in snow melt. They flock in clouds, and
their bite hurts like mad. They leave no welts or bite marks. Slow buggers,
easy to kill, but every one you kill, 200 of them come to avenge the death.
DEET has no effect on them. We call them biting flies.
