Hey all, we made it back from our trip around Lake Michigan.
Here are my pictures from the Great Gilbert's GMC Gathering on June 13. Tim
and Kathy were fantastic hosts. Gilbert's was also fantastic, I will be back
next time we are in Michigan.
I had a great time and wish I could have stayed longer!

We put about 1650 miles on the GMC. The odometer is now at 54361. We
averaged a bit over 8 MPG, I was hoping for better but I suspect that this
is expected when you drive 65-70 and run the genset. The best we got was
10.3 in the U.P. where the speed limit is 55 (we drove about 60). Gas
prices hurt, average of $1.90/gallon. Overall it was a great trip. Used 1
qt of oil.
Here are the list of things that were repaired on the trip.....
(1) The flex pipe on the Onan cracked. I put a temp patch of alum. flashing
and a couple of clamps. It is still holding. Need to find a replacement
pipe...
(2) The Onan 60A circuit breaker gave out. I replaced this with a 30A that
doesn't quite fit right but got me home.
(3) The rear ceiling vent leaked on my wife during a three inch rain storm.
She wasn't happy. I think it was leaking from a pinhole by near where the
lift support connects to the lit. A sealed that but it hasn't rained much
since to test it out.
(4) My alt belt started squealing a bit on start up and I should have taken
the time to tighten it but I didn't and it broke about 30 miles from home.
It spun around the A/C belt. I replaced all the belts in my drive way.
(5) Dash lights. Finally spent enough time and figured it out. We found
the aftermarket radio had been connected to the dash lights causing a short.
I think someone here may have mentioned this? If so Thanks. Anyway it's
nice to not have to use a flash light to check the gauges.
Observations:
The Hayden fan clutch I installed before the trip doesn't operate like I
thought it should. It runs until the GMC reaches about 40-50 MPH and then
shuts down until the GMC gets hot. Then it kicks in and cools things down
but doesn't shut off until I slow down again? I suspect this eats into some
MPGs? This doesn't sound like how I thought it should work.
