Monitor Panel - some say full, some say empty

Good morning,

finally arrived in the Bay area, and have some time to kill before
family arrives on Thursday.

My monitor panel shows Full for Water and LPG, Empty for Holding and
Battery. I removed two gauges to check what's there.

The holding tanks bottom two connectors provide ground, the top one does
not.

The water tank has all three connectors provide ground.

Is there an easy fix that can be done from inside the coach, or is this
something that I have to look at and trace the sending units cabling?

They have been like that since I have had the coach. And in those years
we did have an empty battery, empty water and nearly full LPG tank and
holding tank. Luckily, never did we get a greeting from the contents of
the holding tank into the bathroom.

I'm confused!

Are you saying that from the day you've owned the coach they have never moved?

You filled and used water from the water tank - gage never moved.

Used water and emptied the holding tank - gage never moved.

Filled and used LPG - gage never moved.

Batteries are fully charged and supplying power to the house systems.

I don't know how the gages in a 76 Eleganza II work, but the only thing that comes to mind is see if the power to the gages comes
from the same place.

The monitor gauges are not the most reliable devices in your coach, they're dependant on too many connections and 'assumptions'. I liked my rear bath
Norris 23' which had none. The water tank was visible in the cabinet uner the icebix, and the blackwater tank was the same capacity. So, when the
water got low, I assumed the blackwater got high and went and dumped it.

After reading the schematics I want to verify the key on it. The numbers
next to the lines (with the colors behind them), are the size of the
wire in AWG.

Is that correct?

Those monitor panel gauges are notoriously inaccurate, and rarely work. I spent good money trying to fix mine (bought new sending units for the
holding tank AND the water tank, and a new fresh water tank gauge). I had very little luck with them right from the get go. The holding tank gauge
would work intermittently, then finally quit altogether, same with the water gauge. The battery meter reads two different values depending on if the
switch is in the momentary position or the full-on position. I finally gave up. My LP tank is not original, so not even compatible.

Once you get better acquainted with your coach, you will get a better feeling for when you need water or when you need to dump. One way is to use the
fresh water tank for all your fresh water needs, and since the holding tank is approximately the same time, dump the holding tank when you run out of
fresh water. The other option is to look down the toilet with a flashlight every once in a while to check the level visually.

All that information is over-rated anyway. I haven't had a working gauge on
a house tank probably ever (no remaining panel in the coach). I do not use
city water except to fill the tank, and I use water from the freshwater
tank rather than the hose. The water tank holds 30 gallons (plus six in the
water heater, but that can't come out if the freshwater tank is empty), and
the waste tank holds 36. When the freshwater tank needs filling, the waste
tank needs emptying.

When I want to know how much water I have, I open the cabinet door to where
that tank is and look through the side of the translucent plastic.

The only time I've had an issue is when I failed to remember to empty the
waste tank coming home from a trip. That is a less one learns *once*.

As I said, so far I always ahead of the black tank. But you know,
sitting here in the parking lot, waiting for Thursday to come around,
and facing the monitor panel does introduce some kind of a "Have to do
something about it" feeling. I'll walk down to Home Depot in an hour or
so when the heat is a bit less, and see what I can find that might aid
me in finding the causes of my issue.

The original OEM monitor works on resistance,
0 ohms equals full reading
90 ohms equals empty reading.
battery reads voltage.
Connections of power or ground can be poor or bad on the monitor panel (slides out) or at the sending unit.
The multipin connector at the back of the monitor can be a problem source, pins get loose and loose connection

By grounding the power wire at the holding tank sender (on pass side of rear of tank), may determine if the sending unit is stuck in empty or ? gauge
has a bad ground.
The float on the holding tank over time can also go bad. Available on Ebay.
My OEM water tank and holding tank are 30 gal each. After I repaired the monitor system, it reads very accurately.
