Patrick,
I know both sides of this coin .The omni/horizon used a VW 1.9 engine same
as the1.49 the rabbit used but longer stroke.Chrysler spec a windage tray
and low volune oil punp with a circular sump area. The Rabbit/Golf had a high
volume oil pump no trays so that when you went on long sweeping off ramps
the pump would run dry,the low oil lite would come on notifing you of #3
bearing gone, just wiped her dry and needed replaceing.
Along the same line Huntsville Electronics ended up with Introl Div.folded
into it,they produced 100% of the oil pressure sending units for U.S.passcar
production well into the late 80's. New process Gear,Chrysler ,made all of
the Jeep 4 wheel drive transfer case's.Saginaw Strg.Gear made many
strg.gears for the Industry.
Another side light on the B O small block ,it was the basis for 1 of the
first Brabham F-1 engines and I believe He won a world chamionship with it.
Jim Penrod Jus hangin out an bein cool in Lake Placid, F.L.A.
