Misssing messages

I'm seeing a lot of replies to messages that I never see. I suspect the
missing ones are entered via the Birdfeeder, but I've certainly no proof of
that. Does anyone more currently technically proficient than I have any
ideas for curing this malady?

TIA,

Ken H.

Ken, take a look at your settings and see if you have inadvertently (or verdantly) set 'ignore' for some folks. BTDT.

HI Ken,

I have been noticing the same thing for some months now and on several occasions went to the birdfeeder and found the missing message(s). I’m on the mailing list and have no blocking in place.

I didn’t want to bother the list admins about it and I just go over to the web interface if I need to see something that didn’t make it to the mailing list.

That has been the status quo for me as far back as I can remember.

Johnny,
I didn't know there's a way to block anyone -- except maybe by creating a
filter. How does one do that in GMail? ('tho' I seriously doubt that's my
problem..)
...
I just went to the web site and checked my profile -- the first time I've
been there since Eugene changed the software. Looks much better than with
the old program. I didn't find anything wrong with my information, so
found no reason for my perceived problem -- maybe it will fix itself?

Ken,

Can you give me an example of a specific message that failed?

Ken, my error. That trick only works on the Forum, it's a part of the BBS software. The list doesn't like ymail

Ken, there are 15 messages in that thread. The one you sent me below is message #2

Message #1 (the thread starter) was sent by userid Huckster92592 on Fri, 27 March 2020 12:00.

He has been a user since Wed August 21 of 2013. So he is not a new guy buy any means.

He also posted 7 more times in the same thread on:
Mon, 23 March 2020 09:52
Mon, 23 March 2020 09:55
Wed, 25 March 2020 22:11
Wed, 25 March 2020 22:13
Wed, 25 March 2020 22:17
Thu, 26 March 2020 12:54
Fri, 27 March 2020 12:00

So you might check to see if you received any of those messages. If the answer is no, then we can assume that his user id got deleted in the email
server.

If on the other hand, you did receive some or all of them, then we need to look elsewhere. Maybe we should check to see if other emailers also did
not receive any or all of the same messages.

It is not uncommon for some email servers to discard good received messages when they get too busy. This is usually caused by handling a large amount
of inbound SPAM. I do not know that this is happening in this case.

Ken,

I searched every way I could think of for Huckster92592 and found no
messages from him during the last 3117 I received. And he's not in my
Contacts (which is really strange if he's been around since 2013). Nor do
I remember ever seeing that username. Strange.

I get little Spam, so maybe that's a clue -- maybe GMail is filtering him
for some reason without my knowing. I searched Trash for him -- I don't
know if that's where GMail puts Spam?

Thanks for trying to help.

We need to see if any other emailers can see him. If not, then the problem is probably on Patrick's server. He probably got dropped or never was
added to the subscription list.

As an eMailer I can confirm that I do not see his messages either.

Thanks Olly,

One more email user report and we should can send a message to whomever is doing admin there and ask them to see if they have a registration for this
GMCer.

I think Billy has admin authority.

I get no messages from Huckster92592 either... and have been missing
messages for some time. It's aggravating, but not something I felt was
important enough to address, time better spent on doing something on the
coach....;)

Back in January Ken and I used email directly and I included this trying to figure out why he did not see my initial thread. Does tracking another
partial/missing thread help the admins?

On Jan 21 I sent Ken this directly:
I posted Thursday Jan 16 "Engine rebuild has begun" and had a few replies, mostly about leaking exhuast. Pulled the motor apart and posted a few noted
issues to which Bob replied...and apparently the system picked you up at that point. I sure want you to see my thread!

Another example of a forum message that I did not receive on the email list:

I did not receive message 353302 “6000k watt Onan parts for free” - however I did receive Tyler’s reply to it.

Same here. Received the answer, not the first message.

OK guys, Let me first say that I am NOT an email user but here I how I understand the coordination between the two systems works.

When the forum receives a posting it sends a copy to the email server on behalf or the forum poster using their id or email address. The email server
checka the received email and verifies the originator's email is from a valid (enrolled) user. If it does not have a subscription for that id, it
discards the posting assuming it is SPAM or something else undesirable. It is my understanding that is also logs the discard and an admin has to then
go in and add the user to the subscription list. If I remember correctly at one time I saw a posting that said they automated that process but I
could be wrong as I never pay much attention to GMCnet email stuff.

So how do you fix it. Contact the admin who is ? (I believe Patrick or Billy) and have those ids or email addresses added to the subscription list.
If these missing ids / emails are already there then I would delete them and let the automated or manual system add them back again.

Let me stress. I do not know how to do this and have no familiarity with the actual server program they are using. My experience with email systems
dates back to the early 1990's before more modern web based systems took over.

If it worked OK in the 1990's it ought to still work OK today. I have a system that I wrote in the 1990s that monitors an NWS/FAA weather system,
analyzes the hourly weather reports hourly, and pages airport workers to come out and start plowing snow. It still works and the only change I have
had to make is to allow it to now send text messages on top of the pagers. The thing runs under DOS4.0.

My point is GMCnet email should still run 25 years later error free. It looks to me like the subscription list needs a little updating. That is all.

You are at the end of my knowledge and experience on this as I have not played with it in 25 to 30 years.

So figure out who the admin is. Talk to him and send him a list of the ids that are not working.

You night reference him to this thread, or this posting if necessary. I will gladly talk to him if necessary and give my opinions, but I am not an
expert on this by any means.
