Mid-winter Stretch of Legs

Took ol'Leaky out for a spin in the rain today, figured it was probably better to go for a drive rather than just starting her up and idling in the
yard. Didn't go too far; just over to the local Walmart a couple of miles away. A few decent 2nd gear climbs and descents en route so got the 403
warmed up nicely. Ate up the road btw. Picked up a bag of groceries and headed back to base. Switched the battery back off, locked up and drove home.
Stopped off at the lake for a few casts, got no bites -just got wet- all in all a good day at the end of a NW coast January.

Nice.

One thing to keep in mind - I've seen the salt trucks out this past
week, putting down lots of brine... It takes a lot of rain to fully wash
that away! Lots of nooks & crannies under a GMC!

I prefer to not tempt the rust Gods - so my GMC stays safely in its
house until April most years...

I have had few customers that would come to our yard and run the engine
every week.
Doesn't take long before the engines were burning oil.
One needs to DRIVE it to get the engine warm in short order. Idling with
choke on is not good at all.
If you have the choke adjusted like it should, there is no need to warm up
the engine as it will be warm enough by the time your on the road doing 60
mph.

As I've said before, why do you not have it rust proofed annually? Works like a charm on my other old vehicles...

I would never bother running anything just to warm it up. Nothing good happens with that.
I park it in November, let her sit till April or may.
(Thats winter here in Minnesota)

I have owned some vehicles that I rust proofed regularly. One was a 75 Jeep Gladiator that I didn't want to have stored for the winter. (It just
doesn't make sense to store a good 4WD for the winter in Michigan). I used a special gun to coat the entire underside with chain saw bar oil. It
would still be dripping off in the spring. I did consider it at one time, but there is the issue that the Gladiator was 12 feet long and the coach is
23.

The coach is another matter, having it available to drive on snow covered roads when it is not really good at that and putting it where some moron
with an ill-prepared car and run into it is just not no my list of things I want to do. If I really needed it to be somewhere for some good reason,
that would be considered with the situation.

And, as Keith said - there is nothing good that happens to a idling engine.
