Wanted everyone to know that I just went out and bought the new upgraded to
Microsoft Streets and Trips 200 from the old 1998 version. BEWARE NO GPS on
this new version. So now I get to remove all of this software and reinstall
the old one. The Pits. and Microsoft shows no interest in telling me why
they no longer support GPS............ Tim Jones 78 Kingsley

I don't have a GPS so didn't notice that they didn't support it. I did
un-install it though since it was so much slower to load and operate than
the old 98 version. I just couldn't stand the wait.

FWIW, I've used just about all GPS/Mapping software available except the
Sony/Etka.

For en-route and planning, hard to beat Delorme/AAA (Map 'n Go)

Delorme Streets may have some more detail at the street level, but it quits
at the 49th parallel :-)

For detailed navigation: StreetPC (Liikuva), but it has en-route
limitations. Going to do a review of my GPS usage for the website one of
these days :-)

MS stuff got tried on several occasions and always got chucked and when 2000
came out and no GPS I didn't even try it. As usual MS mucked it up after
they bought a jumpstart.

Still looking for the perfect one :-)

If you're thinking Delorme/DVD, don't. It's an older version.

I've used the Sony/Etak s/w and GPS antenna. THe maps for Wtak have been
great. Good detail and has most streets most of the time - even the dirt
road in teh hills of Corralitos that we went looking for. IN out cross
country trip we found the s/w worked well in letting us search for
services. BUT, many services are not inlcuded on teh CD. We found the zoom
requirements for map reading to be a pain. AS far as routing - the system
will let you plan waypoints and does a city-to-city routing, but you're on
your own once you reach the city. Perhaps the most inconvenient aspect of
the system is the relatively poor integration between the planning software
and the realtime map.

That is a very serious shortcoming... maybe they did not pay the
copyright owner of the maps the fee they wanted for the Latitude
Longitude registration for their maps for this particular MS product.
Does Microsoft have a higher priced Map product that does support GPS?
