I fully agree that GM engineers were great but what they couldn't have
anticipated is that one day 16.5" wheels would no longer be produced
which means that size tire would disappear also. That day hasn't come yet
but may be around the corner. There are many other reasons to go for the
Alcoa wheels which you can learn about by going into the archives.

Alan,
At this time there are no 16.5 Aluminum Wheel available for the GMC.
The only wheel that is proven for the GMC is the 16" Alcoa wheel. The
16" vs 16.5" refers to the rim diameter and not the diameter of the
tire. Most if not all the rated tires used on the GMC are bigger in
rolling diameter than most of the older 16.5" tires. Remember that the
GMC center indexes off the hub and not the studs. The studs hold the
wheel on the hub but the weight is supported by the center hole of the wheel.
