Macerator question. Looking for ideas & pics

Hi folks.

I'm halfway into reshuffling my macerator pump location and am having second
thoughts about what seemed a good idea a few hours ago.

Any pics somewhere to help me get some fresh ideas? I checked Gene's site
but didn't find any and gmcmotorhome doesn't answer.

My original installation left about 5 gallons in the tank. I'm currently
trying to mount it closer to the tank but a little lower so that the intake
of the macerator will 'fill up' better.

Heinz I saw a fantastic mascerator pump installation this last weekend at
our club rally. The guy used an air powered waste gate at the tank and
mounted the mascerator and and another waste gate at the very end of the 3"
pipe near the rear of the coach. In other words cut the fitting off the
very end of the 3" pipe and install a street Y. One end has a waste gate
and the other the mascerator pump mounted on top of the Y. had a stainless
steel rope and pully attached to the Y so he could lower it to the ground,
activate the air powered inner waste gate and turn on the mascerator.
Wonderful and very simple. If for some reason the mascerator fails, connect
your 3" flexible hose to the other part of the Y and its waste gate and dump
normally.

That sounds too complicated :-)
I don't want to have to lower anything, work with pulleys, etc.
I did away with the regular outlet when I first changed to macerator,
intentionally.

I had it setup pretty good, but "pretty good" wasn't good enough. My
original setup would leave about 5 gallons of waste in the tank and I'm
trying to improve on that... I want it all out :-)

Just being fussy I guess... must be the programmer part in me [g].

Heinz

P.S. Any idea what he used to open the gatevalve, i.e. what kind of
piston/actuator? Did it fit onto the gatevalve in it's original position,
I.e. squished close to the crossmember?

the installation is not complicated at all. Very simple and very easy to
use. Just lift a lever attached to the rear bumper bracket and the 3" pipe
drops down to the ground, flip the air switch to open the inner dump valve
and turn on the mascerator. He has a collapsable roll up hose attached to
the mascerator that just rolls up when done. The mascerator is located near
the rear bumper so it can be worked on very easily in case of problems. the
dump valve was probably a TWIS-loc gate valve, air powered and only $33.75.

Went to the site and the air valve is about $159 not $33.75

Thanks for the link.
$159 is probably the one he used then, i.e. the power one. I'm going to keep
this one in mind the next time mine needs replacing or the fixing (again).
Had to do some extra supporting/fixing due to the Onan enclosure being gone.

Heinz

P.S. Re the installation you saw, did he have a hitch installed?

Yes he did. I am going to try and get some pictures of it. I can't believe
he would pay $159 for the valve however. Must be another one out there.
Nice thing about this installation, everything can be done standing up
without any danger of getting goup dumped into your shoe.

I'll try to take some today. If I don't make it, I won't get to it until
the 10th of June.

My macerator is attached directly to the black water tank by a short rubber
adapter. The pump is isolated from the tank by the adapter, so there isn't
a lot of mechanical vibration. The macerator is mounted on a piece of wood,
which is screwed to the bottom of the coach.

It looks like the bottom of your macerator is about an inch higher than the
bottom of the tank. Have you tried dropping the rear end by deflating the
bags when you're dumping? That might get you the added head that you need
to completely empty the tank.

Heinz

My macerator is connected to the black water tank
shutoff valve with a short rubber connector like Henry's.
The macerator is mounted on a piece of wood, which is
bolted to the bottom of the coach same as Henry's.

The macerator is then connected to a 1 inch ID thick wall hose
(Looks like a big heater hose) which comes out in the battery
compartment next to the Onan where it is capped off with a hose
connection and a cap so it can't drip. I have a switch located in
the battery compartment to activate the macerator.

When I dump I connect to a clear 8 ft length of plastic hose
or to two lengths if necessary so I can tell when the tank is
flushed and hoses are cleaned.

I always leave the macerator full of clean water and have
not had to un-jam the macerator yet.

I do not have a way to dump except thru the macerator.
