I understand the English penchant for never improving something that is
never quite right)
that they made that explains this phenomenon.
I for one have never forgiven them for the incredible job of wiring
they did on the Triumph (among others) motorcycles. Love those Zener
diodes.
A good choice for a regulator is the Mallory unit or the Holley. Both
work well. I prefer the Mallory Electric fuel pump over the Holley
simply because the Holley makes so much noise.
