The choke on my Onan is basically seized up. I can only move it by hand (very stiff) which is impractical for starting. I am looking for something to
lubricate it considering the high temperature environment where lives. Any suggestions?

Id try to get it moving free with ATF/Acetone. Clean it all up as best you can, spray it all down the brake cleaner, and then lubricate it with
silicone or something like that, that wont collect dirt and grime.

Are you referring to the thermoelectric choke mounted on the exhaust manifold - or are you referring to the choke shaft in the carb?

If the former - no lube. If it is difficult to move then there’s probably something broken inside.

If the latter - there may be some varnish around the lower portion of the shaft, check to make sure that is clean. Other than that any lube is fine for the shaft if it really needs it.

FWIW I’ve never seen any choke parts that needed lubed on any of the Onans that I’ve worked on.

There is an electromagnet in the housing. This has enameled wire windings. Don't use any solvent which could melt the enamel and cause them to short
to each other. There is also a bimetallic spring which defeats the action when hot and cranking.

It is the "thermoelectric choke mounted on the exhaust manifold" that seems to be seized. Best bet now it seems will be to remove it and see what is
going on inside. Onan starts and runs. Its been that way for years.

Instead of trying to move it, first slide the set out where you can see it. Start it and watch the choke. Report back.

It only moves, if I move it during starting.

If external light lube does not help, take wire off choke and meter choke screw to ground You should have some low number not open or shorted. The
ground connection have been known to be bad as well on crusty manifold. See if metering to can or block is different to troubleshoot. Also confirm you
have 12V at chick when cranking. If all this is good you need to remove can and check internal spring on choke unit. The electrical part always tries
to choke when cranking, but has to go throught the bimetallic to work so it is defeated hot.

I have recently discovered one good for places where you do not want to attract dust and grime. Garage door track lubricant was suggested by the
mechanic who installed my new door. Any big box store should have it.
If you don't want to make your own penetrant, Kroil is the best I've found, available online. WD-40 is just kerosene.
