Food for thought. I’ve been following a guy on YouTube that is swapping an LS into a Corvair using a Cadillac transmission. The advantages you ask?
LS power with an overdrive transmission. The LS fits sideways, might be an advantage, all the parts would be available over the counter. I’m just
spitballing here, or has this already been done?
My ride runs great so no changes planned.

Not the first time the V8 using a TH425 trans has been done. Some have used the 455 and most have used the SB Chevy. The LS is just an upgrade fusing a newer engine. Jim B has even put a SB Chevy into a motorhome I think.

I remember purchasing a TH425 from an individual who had planned on using it for a mid-engine conversion of a Vega coupe. Ran out of money before
finishing it. Neat idea.

Nelson, the LS is the replacement for the original small block chev engine, used in most GM stuff today. Most common 6.2 liter (~~372CID) shares only
bore centers and a couple of internal parts with the original smallblock. Time will tell if it's as reliable. The original small block came out in
the 55 Chev, production ended in 2003.

And on looking further, the 6.2 may not be the most common....

I think he's talking about using a newer Cadillac transmission, probably the 4T80-E, which mounts the engine transversely. It was designed for up to
an 8000lb vehicle, so I don't know how it would hold up to 12000lbs. Has anyone tried it?

Thanks Johnny,
Great engines as I had one in my 55 Chevy convertible, a 327 in my 69 Vette and a 400 in a 78 van, all great engines. But the one in my 75 Vette is a disappointment as that was the year for all the government mandated emissions. Maybe I can replace it with fuel injected LS.
