Yesterday after cleaning, inspecting, and adding new grease and CV boots
to the passenger side axle I took a look at the lower ball joint. The
rivets had been replaced by thePO The hole in the A arm is slightly
elongated. The bolt and locking nut a 5/16 were loose on one side. Before
I go any further and drill the A-arm and ball joint ears to 3/8 and use
a 3/8 grade 8 bolt and locking nut, I would like to review my plans with
those of you that have an opinion on this repair.First I will line up
the bolt holes and temporarily bolt one side with the 5/16 bolt to hold
in place. Then I will drill the other side to 3/8 and install a grade 8
bolt and locking nut using red loctite. Next I'll remove the temporary
5/16 bolt on the other side and drill and replace as on the first side.
Do I use Green loctite on the center stud and what are the torque values
on these bolts. This is my first time for this repair and all my
information has come from this mailinglist. Thanks for all your help.
