I have a Camaro that does that sometimes. I grab the wheel and move it some
both directions. It "catches" the ignition from time to time and that's how
I release it. Maybe it's time to get it fixed

Re-Lube the gear rack guide for the pin that locks the wheel. You may be able to do it with some pressurized spray lube (like X-Treme or similar that
expands after it comes out of the can) with just taking the steering wheel off. Worth a shot anyways...otherwise you'll have to take the whole deal
apart, which requires certain tools, clean it all up and regrease the moving parts, and there is a trick to getting it back together correctly that is
not apparent when you take it apart unless you watch VERY carefully.
