Light Switch Knob

In my effort to take the dash apart for refinishing, I can't seem to get
the Knob for the light switch to come off. This is required because the
metal dash plate has only a small hole for the shaft of the switch and will
not fit over the knob like the decorative cover did.

Does anyone know how the knob is held on???? Screw on???? Set screw in
knob???? Push on????

Help me before I kill again................th

You might try looking at a switch at an auto parts store to see how they
come apart.

As I recall, there is a small hole on the switch body (part behind the
instrument panel) that you poke a small nail, awl, etc., into to depress the
release so you can pull out the shaft by the knob. If you have a shop
manual, see if it shows that.

Thom. on the back side, that is the side behind the dash. Trying to remember
exactly.................On the rod of the push/pull for the switch. The end
inside the mechanism has a slot which locks to the switch mechanism via a clip.
There should be a hole or slot or something like that. By inserting something
into this hole it will release the lock which holds the switch on. Clear as mud
eh. It is simple. Have a look at the back of the mechanism and you should be
able to see what I am trying, with difficulty, to illustrate for you. It is
easier if you already have the donut for the cluster removed. I'm not making
this up. I just did the same thing last week. It is not nearly as complicated
as I am making it sound. Unfortunately, the switch is not here with me at the
moment. When I get it this afternoon I will try again. Darren

Had the same problem. Attack the problem from the back of the housing that
holds the knob ie get underneath the dash panel and you will see a clip that
holds the knob in place. Remove that and you can get the knob out. I almost
( and I can't verify I didn't lose some brain cells) lost my mind trying to
figure out how to get it out.
