Light over kitchen

Ok, bingo, LED light work now, thanks guys. Have taken down kithen light and discovered 3rd wire, appears to be white, that is capped off. What was it
for? Have notice sometimes that light dims at times when in use.

The wiring diagram seems to show the kitchen light plus wire to the light is dark blue and the plus lead on the fixture is black (those two should be
connected). The fixture minus (ground) lead is white, but the drawing doesn't show the color of that wire from the fixture minus lead to the body
(ground). A couple of other accessories have the white (minus) wire of the fixture lead connected to a black wire that goes to the body (ground).

You need to measure some voltages and continuities to figure out what is going on. Do you know how to do that?

Never mind. I should have been looking at

Shows three wires at the galley light fixture. One (dark blue)goes to the house fuse block no 1 position, one (brown) goes to the galley light switch
and one (black) goes to ground. I don't know why one fixture black wire is hot all the time from the dark blue wire and the other black wire goes to
the switch. Also, seems like it wouldn't work at all with the white wire floating. Seems a PO has mucked with the wiring. I would need to do some
continuity and impedance checking on the fixture to figure out how it is supposed to work.

Ok, this helps. I do have a meter, not completly sure on how to use it but I can figure it out. I'll dbl check all the wire colors and make sure those
colors are connected properly. I wonder if the 3rd wire may go to the exhaust fan that was over the stove. All gone now.
 
Normally that light fixture has a "three way" switch on it, meaning that you can turn it on from the wall switch bu the door OR the switch on the
fixture. That is how mine was set up. I can't remember exactly how it was wired, but it was simple to figure out when I converted my aftermarket
fluorescent fixture to LEDs. Hope that helps.

It clears it up for me. The dark blue wire goes to the black wire of the switch on the fixture, the brown wire comes from the wall switch to the other
black wire of the fixture, and the white fixture wire should go to a black wire (to house ground).

Thanks guys for the wiring info. Good to know I can use the swith at the doir for the kitchen light. My new fixture there only has 2 wires off it
(black & white). How would I wire up it to the 3 wires to use the galley switch too?

I am guessing the new fixture doesn't have an actual 3-way switch. I don't know if the original did either. A little lesson in "logic". A real 3-way
switch is what we call in computer nerd speak an "exclusive or". It only lights if one or the other is "on". If both are "on" the light is off. A
regular "or" will be on if either is "on" AND if both are on.

What you are going to be able to wire with a non 3-way switch is a regular "or". If you turn it on with the switch at the door, you will have to turn
the switch at the door "off" to turn it off. Same with the switch at the fixture. A 3-way at both the door and the fixture would allow you to turn it
off at the fixture even if you turned it on at the door, and vice versa.

Want me to post a connection diagram for an "or" circuit using what you got?

It sim ply has a splitter on the of the switch with a hot wire to it and the wire from the door switch connected to it, and the black ground on the
other end of the switch. 12 volt power is fed to the light by either of those sources (if the door switch is on) or both. The light can be turned on
at either switch, but will not go off at the light IF the door switch is on.

If the switches are ordinary SPST, whichever switch is used to turn it on will need to be the one to turn it off. Will not work like 3-way switches.
If turned on at the door, will need to be turned off at the door. Same for turning it on at the fixture. If both switches are on, both will need to be
turned off to turn off the light.

I would have to put more thought and doodling into figuring out how it would work if the switch at the door is a 3-way and the switch at the fixture
is SPST.

Sorry guys, yesterday was Easter stuff. Thanks for getting back on the diagram. So looking at it here, am I understanding correctly that if I have a 2
way, which I do, that I can still use the galley switch or switch on fixture but to turn it off that switch has to be used?
