Light in the engine compartment?

Question guys,
Anyone put a light/lights on the hatch side of the engine compartment yet? If so have a few pictures? My eyes aren't what they used to be and holding
a flashlight in my mouth or putting head gear on really isnt my thing.

I have not added the light(s) but I have done what I'd consider a
prerequisite: Put hinges on the hatch cover so it can just swing up from
the rear and remain in place. The under side of that cover would now be
an ideal location for light(s) -- with a quick disconnect for when the
cover needs to be removed. To hinge the cover, I removed the top flange at
the front of the opening, then mounted the cover with door "butts". I
replaced the removeable pins with slightly smaller diameter "L"-shaped
pins which are securely retained by the "foot", but easily removed when
needed. I use a piece of aluminum pipe, which resides on top of the
engine, to prop the lid up (easily removed air cylinders would be even more
convenient). I can't remember the last time I had to lift that heavy lid
completely off.

Streamlight makes a nice headband led lamp for about $20 on Amazon. Have
two at the shop. Can’t see s$it up close anymore without them.

There's a really nice under hood light that came in GM pickups. From about 88, and up. That has a magnetic base. In the light. The 15ft cord is wound up. Back into its main housing. I have 4 in our 78 Royale. That way I have a handy light to look at any place on the outside. Even the underside. Don't like flashlights with dead batteries. I can send a photo. I've got them for $5 to $10 at a you pull lots.

My 1978 Royale came from the factory with an under hood light. It comes on
when you open the outside hatch on the passenger side. It has an extension
cord that will allow you to move around the coach to various locations as
necessary. Put it through the toll booth window and it reaches the engine
compartment easily.

+1 for a headlight; I have found it to be indispensible in and around the coach. Get two, one for clean and one for dirty. My favorite is the BioLite
Headlamp 330. It's lightweight, comfortable and well-balanced. They also just came out with a new model that's less expensive.

I hinged my lid. Much like Ken H did. It can be done with the Vintage A/C in place. I've enjoyed that hinged lid a lot.

I too hinged my hatch and installed the leg of an old easy up canopy to
the underside of the hatch to support the hatch open.
The leg telescopes so the hatch is opened at 90 degrees, pressing the
detent, and it telescopes back into itself to fit under the hatch.
I have two more legs if anyone wants one.

After getting the lid in the head twice this week working on the A/C line it's gotta get something better than a broom handle to prop it up :x

I've tried the prop stick and it is variably in the way and hard on the head. I considered hinging the lid but then, If I'm just checking the trans,
belts, etc. I lean it against the dash. If I'm going to be doing anything else like changing belts, or a tune up, or... I take the lid off and move it
completely out of my way. I'm already lifting it so I may as well get it clean out of the way.

I used a piano hinge and a pneumatic lift to assist and hold the hatch up. Then used a hood release mechanism from a 90's Honda Civic as a "hood
release" for the hatch. Mounted the release latch just behind the drivers seat. Convenient and easy. JWID
