Lenzi mid axle brakes with True-Track

I currently had a True-Track on my mid axles only.

I also have Dave Lenzi's mid-axle disc brake kit I'd like to install. I've had the kit for a couple of years and when I got it I believe Dave said he
had not looked into making a bracket for the True-Track.

Before I get into this installation, has anyone adapted the True-track to work with Dave's mid-axle brakes?

Thanks

Thanks Bruce !!

I have EXACTLY the same issue... haven’t purchased Dave’s kit yet but planning to.

Seems like Dave's kit adds the thickness of the adapter/backplate assembly to the back of the bogie mount where the true-track would attach. Since the
bracket that holds the roller is designed to mount directly to the back of the bogie mount, it would need to be modified so that it could be mounted
further away from the bogie mount by that thickness. Would probably need longer bolts. From the true-track photos it looks like it would clear the
true-track guides.

So I was able to pull the passenger mid wheel off late this afternoon and make some measurements. Please note these are not really accurate
measurements, there is likely an uncertainty of 1/4".

The distance from the back of the bogie to the frame is ~5.75". The True-Track channel is made from two 2" OD U channels for a total width of 4", so
that leaves 1.75" of clearance.

The spacer and caliper mounting bracket is 1.1". The caliper extends 2" beyond the mounting bracket so that is 3.1" where there is only 1.75" to the
true-Track channel. So the channel would need to be removed from its present position.

I'll need to get the brakes mounted to see what I can do. I can see where the slider track version would likely clear, but I haven't seen that
version on JimK's site. I'm guessing its no longer available?

I started my installation of the Lenzi mid-axle brakes yesterday. I posted some photos including the clearance from the mounting bracket to the
Tru-Track channel. The Tru-Tracks need to come off as there is only about 3/4" clearance behind the caliper mounting bracket. The Lenzi brake system
needs about 2".

I really like the Tru-Tracks on the mid-axle. I believe they cut down on rear sway and made it easier to pull back on the pavement when the rear went
on the gravel shoulder. Just my experience.

Bruce H writes : I really like the Tru-Tracks on the mid-axle. I believe they cut down on rear sway, Bruce ; something to ponder, Karl down in NC and
myself are having a quantity of 1" dia. sway bars produced to be used with our reaction arm braking system using the 80mm Lambke forked caliper mount
and the Kelsey Hayes ball ramp parking brake caliper . Since the sway bars have a horizontal axis eye, one might be able to mount an adapter to the
rear axis of the mid bogie arm and couple it with a semi flexible joint to the sway bar. This approach would give you a quasi " Tru Track " and a mid
sway bar. Cheers .......Albert

Thanks for posting pictures Bruce !!

I’m still planning to do this on my 23 footer and remain curious about your true-track solution...

And another issue - I don’t know if my 1973 coach ever received the bogie pin upgrade of it it still has the original (smaller diameter) pins.

Anyone have a method for discovery other than dis-assembly ??

Thanks,
Steve W

Steve,
At this point my solution is to remove them. Dave said a solution is something he needs to work on as a number of people have asked him about it.

I've sent him some photos with measurements.

I have some more photos to post on the site of the installation... maybe I'll get that done this morning yet.

Bruce,

What are you running for a front sway bar??

I have a couple people tell me their caspro front bars are enough to allow them to jump on and off the edge of pavement stress free. I am planning
on driving their coach this summer to see for myself. a heavy front bar is something I would like to do soon.

I know some who run the rear (mid) torsion bars have said that. But I have also heard it said that the rear torsion bars can make it harder to level
the coach due to the torsion bar action side to side.
