leaks

I have a leak(s) in heavy rain. The water enters either around the front vent escutcheon or the rear corner, depending on how the coach is levelled.
Leads me to believe it's leaking around a clearance light, or something on the roof. Either way, resealing is in order. Anyone got a fan pressure
system close?

Also, Tower Sealants is local to me. Any idea which of their products should be used to seal seams on the GMC?

Fits perfectly over a roof vent with the cover removed. I hooked up a power cord to it and found about a dozen spots leaking air.

Hey, Johnny,

Happy Holidays. Jim Bounds is the sealer king, I think he has a specific product, an RTV that he uses. I am speculating that Jim K's gaskets he
sells separately might do the trick for the sealing of the clearance lights. JimK, Applied GMC in California, Jim Bounds, the GMC Co-op in Orlando.
Butyl also comes to mind. Take your drill and bits up to the roof as the screws are notorious for not coming out. Maybe your torch if you have to
destroy the lens. There is a seam up there, between the roof and end cap. Leveling the coach might spring that open and closed.

Yes. I have the Dixielanders blower system. All you need is a ladder an extension cord and some bubble water. It sits over the roof vent.
I'm headed to the lake tomorrow to check on the boat and could drop it at your place.

Come on down!!! I have the glass guy coming by to put a new and badly needed windshield in the Ratrod, so I'll be here at least all morning. If

I'll ask Bounds, and tell the Tower guy to gimme their equivalent. For many yeatrs, if you bopught a car built in Atlanta, the body sealer was made
by Tower. GM and Ford, I'm told.

Johnny, we live in Oregon. It rains here. A lot. Steady, for days at a
time. If we leave our coaches out in it, they leak.
If the coaches never moved, sealing them would not be much of a
chore. But, they move, and flex. So your sealant must move and flex
likewise. Some sealants do that better than others. Some name brands I have
successfully used are:
Sika-Flex non hardening sealant.
3M 5200 marine sealant, rapid setting.
There are several others out there, but, I ALWAYS, ALWAYS, stay away
from silicone based products. Reasons, you cannot ever successfully paint
over silicone. And it is a bitch to remove.
One other product that I have used is a tape like product that comes
in rolls. It has a peel off membrane that you remove as it is applied. It
is the stickiest stuff that I have ever had my hands on. I use it where the
roof end caps join the aluminum roofing. It costs, my price, over $10.00 a
foot. That's why I don't often recommend it to the GMC community, they are
a cheap bunch, no matter what the quality of the product is. But the stuff
works, period.
Today, I just came from the E.R. and had my nose cauterized. So, I
can't remember stuff like the manufacturer of the tape. If you like, I will
stumble down to the shop tomorrow and find the roll it came on.

Great tape product for seam sealing and locking down the edges on vents is Eternatape. Buy it at your favorite RV supply store, or sometimes Wal-Mart.
When I last did a roof vent, I used a small kit from Camping World (disclaimer: Grabbed it from mark-down corner, so about half price). Once applied
and set-up, it is very difficult to remove.

I'll agree on eternabond tape. It's not the most attractive of product, but
it does awesome for sealing the seams front and rear, as well as the drip
rail/awning. I placed around 70 feet of the stuff on my coach when I found
it leaking... Needed to patch before the winter. I may remove it, or apply
smaller sections come a warm summer day. Purely for cosmetic reasons.

I also used it on the metal roof of my garage =)

Don't forget Flexseal and Flextape (as seen on TV). Somewhat expensive but it works and is available at Dollar General. Still definitely cheaper than
the damage a leak will do.

George just appeared with the blower - as soon as I get dry weather I'll find out where it's leaking. He said when they redid the drip rail seams on
his coach, his son in law talked him into using Simple Green on the screws. Seems to of worked better than Elixer or Kroil. I figure to give it a
try.

This is for Tom Lins. I will try to find it today and post the name on this
thread. I look and feel like I have gone 10 rounds with Mike Tyson. Went to
the E.R. yesterday and had my leaky nose cauterized. This morning, no
leaks. But, a bit of swelling, etc. Couple of days, that should go away.
Guess I could soak my head in a bucket of ice cubes for 30 minutes or so.
That ought to do the trick.
