Leak in air line

I noticed my compressor seemed to be coming on more frequently than I was used to (in my vast experience with such things!! :roll: ). Checked the
rear and discovered that the line is leaking at the compression fitting just before the schrader valve on the left side.

I have my tools with me but before I start Willy nilly trying to tighten or adjust that fitting I thought I would run it by y'all. The bag is holding
fine. It is the fitting that is leaking. I am Hoping that it is just the fitting that has vibrated loose and that I can gently tighten it.

If it is a plastic fitting you might consider just cutting off the fitting and replacing it. If it is brass then, it already has been replaced and
slightly tightening it might take care of your problem.

I think even if it is plastic that I would first try tightening it.

The much maligned "plastic fittings" leak only because after 30-40 years, the o-rings (which actually do the sealing) sometimes compress a little and
may not provide a perfect seal. A few dollars worth of o-rings will restore the sealing properties and save the time and expense of replacing all
those fittings. While on the road, a dab of silicon grease on the offending fitting's o- ring may allow you to finish the trip with no leak. Our 77
Eleganza, with "plastic fittings" will stand "proud & tall" for weeks with no leaks.

Deb, be sure the arm which connects to the height valve isn't hitting the air line at theend of its travel.... a common problem when the original
line is used with a manifold and Schrader valve. Symptom is a crimp in the line where it enters the fitting. Should this be the problem, replace the
line with a longer section and coupling to the original and loop it around the arm on the valve so it's clear regardless the arm position.

Well the line is split at the fitting. Never removed or fiddled with these before. In a very small town with no hardware store. Is it possible to
disassemble where the line enters the compression fitting, cut the line and temporarily reuse the same hardware till I can pick up a replacement
fitting?

Or am I better just to inflate the bags to a good riding height and close the valves till I can repair it?

Most large truck stops will have air lline, fittings, and splices.

What size fitting and tubing do I need for this?

Cut the line just before the bad spot, and take that part with the fitting attached inside and match it for a foot of line, a splice, and a
compression fitting.

Make sure to get the little brass inserts which go into the 1/4 line when you install the compression fitting!

Why don't you just wait until you get to Bruce. He will know where to get what parts locally.

Around here any good independent auto parts store or NAPA (not Autozone) has the parts you want. I would answer your question and give you the sizes
but I might be wrong.

Thanks Ken. I will be stopping in visit Bruce next week. He said he has fittings. I was planning to try to stop by anyway even without the leak
problem.
