Hey netters! Thanks to all who replied public or private re my somewhat
hurried evaluation of my driver's side knuckle in my previous post. Upon
re-measurement I find that it's at the high limit in an egg-shaped profile,
with the out-of-round profile at the rear of the knuckle. No surprise
there. I am going with Loctite 660 filler for now, pending locating some
Toronado knuckles for refurb (yeah right, good luck)
Found chipped load-bearing shoulders on adjacent cage rollers on the outer
bearing. Evidence of contaminated/lousy grease abound, but the outer race
was trashed bigtime. Looks like catastrophic failure soon if I would've
continued to run at interstate speeds (whew, all this chasing down a
grrrnnn grrrrnnn drivetrain noise).
BTW, the old bearings were "Bower" made in Japan. FYI ...
Hub was mangled by cold chisel hacks that was never dressed properly as
were radial misalignment hacks. About 2 hours w/diamond hone & fine emery
cloth polishing... looks great & checks great.
Using Cinnabar bearings & Mobile One .
As always, best regards.
