After having alerted everyone to my health problem, It's only fair that I
follow up: I'm writing this from my daughter's home 2 miles from Emory
University Hospital! They said my xrays, blood work, respiration, and
absence of any bleeding from the incisions meant that I could "go home"
today, tomorrow, or Monday. I chose today.

I won't have a full report on the biopsy of the removed tissues until I
have a follow up visit with the surgeon in two weeks, but he's reporting
now that everything looks VERY good. And all of my physical parameters
seem to be far exceeding the expectations of the hospital's professional
staff -- my respiration, ambulation, and reactions to drugs are all very
good.

As for my treatment, I heartily recommend Emory University Hospital. We've
used it intermittently for about 30 years, but not recently. They've built
a lot of new facilities, and are still doing so. More importantly, they've
adopted a refreshing "family oriented" public relations program which is
exceptional. Almost every employee treated me, and all of my visitors,
virtually like their own family members -- very concerned, cheerful, and
professional.

Thanks to everyone for the many calls, cards, and emails of support you've
provided. I deeply appreciate the GMC portion of my family.

Good show Ken. Good to hear that you were treated well by the hospital folks. Even better to hear you wrangled your way out. Take care.

So everyone can share our relief: Today I had my follow-up with the Chief
of Thorsaic Surgery at Emory University Hospital. Of the dozen or so
biopsies he did on lymph nodes around my lower left lung lobe, not one
showed any sign of the cancer having spread there. So, my cancer is still
rated "Type 1B" -- about as good as it gets.

I'll see him again in a month, then each 6 months for two years. If
nothing shows up during any of that, I'll be considered "cured". There are
some sort of unusual cells, non-cancerous, which may explain the hoarseness
and mucous problems which led the the tests that found the squamous cell
carcinoma. So, I'll have a pulmonologist looking more closely at that in
hopes of finally finding the cause of that annoyance.

To ALL of you, THANK YOU for your concerns, expressed in cards, letters,
emails, calls, and silent thoughts. I really do appreciate the outpouring
of friendship and caring from our communities.

Don't worry 'bout me no more! The Dr. & everyone else says I'm doing
better than most of their 21 YO patients! :-)

Thankful for miracles, Ken. All of us need to pay attention to our bodies
and find those doctors who will listen to us.

Great news!

Ken, great news. But, keep a watchful eye on that stuff. Follow up care is

Excellent news Ken! It's great to know that you have a surgeon who's all over this. I know of many women who go through their surgery and then seem
to get dropped like a hot rock with little or no follow-up. So reassuring to know that your doc is really keeping an eye on things with you and for
you. 🙌
