Say Hey all you Junkyard Dawgs

There is "dog bone" lug wrench that was common on old trucks with one end a
1-1/2 socket. This is great for those front axel nuts.... has a hole in
the shaft for a long long cheater bar...... I am looking for one if you
find them, and you should carry one also. I saw two 1/2 inch braker bars
broken at Ukiah trying to get off the axel nut. Let me know.

I bought a 3/4 inch drive breaker bar and socket at Sears for this. No
problems so far. If I break it, they replace it. Not cheap tho'...

Gene, you are full of good ideas lately. I have one of these in my
garage but I had just never thought of using it on the axel nuts.
It came from a 1969 Travco motorhome that I once owned. I even have
the three foot bar that came with it. It has a square hole in one
end and the 1-1/2 hex in the other. You can find them on trucks that
have dual rear wheels. If I find another one I'll save it for you.

Harbor Freight now has a 21 piece 3/4" socket set for $44.99. It
includes a 17" ratchet, a breaker bar, a 6" extension, and sockets that
range from 7/8" up to 2". The item number is 3994-2VGA. I bought the
same set about ten years ago ($39.00 IIRC) and haven't been able to
break it yet.

You mentioned a cheater bar. This is not from a Junkyard so may not be what
you are looking for but works Great. We got this from Campers Choice it is a
round bar that is adjustable starts out about 30" and goes to about 58" it's
a special metal of some kind. It comes with a long bar with a socket on each
end one is 1" and the other 1 1/8th (hope to find a use for this size some
time) We bought a new long bar with 7/8 & I think 13/16 on each end at a
tractor place. Anyway we were able to take off our 250 lb. torqued wheel
nuts and it didn't bend or break. We got our moneys worth when we did the
shocks last week.
