Jim Bounds.. The man, the myth, the legend

I just had my first over the phone experience with Jim. He is, as many of
you have stated, a national treasure.

He was knowlegable and helpful, spending more time talking me out of
spending money than selling his goods.

How does he make his money? Based on today, when I need some big work
done, he gets it.

Question: Has anyone located a matching veneer/laminate to match the dark
oak(?) on my interior. Some of the interior has deteriorated to obscurity.
The wife loves it. It reminds me of the Contact Paper on my homemade
headboard when I was a kid. I will re-veneer wtih real wood when I make a
new kitchen.

I have a 1975 Palm Beach with the dark oak cabinets, I wanted to have a
cabinet fabricated to go over the sofa. I found a fellow to do the cabinet,
he found the veneer, but to our dismay there were only 3 sheets available,
he bought 2 of them and the company told him they were no longer making
this. I didn't get the tird sheet because it wasn't enought to do anything

Ron,

I asked the same question of Alex Sirum a few months ago
as the small plate under the bath door was bad.

According to Alex, Formica made the original product. But
it has been discontinued for some time.

The best way to duplicate is to soak your old part to remove
the orig formica and then glue to your new part. Or, buy
some old junky cabinets and remove the formica.

You may also find that one of the GMC shops still has some
left (Alex does not). If they will part with it.

I was able to fix my part by re-cycling.

A few years ago I had to rebuild the "headboard" cabinet of our 77 Kingsley
when the particle board disentegrated as a result of a leak. I dropped by
Home Depot and collected sample chips from any formica that looked remotely
like the material on our woodwork. The best match proved to be "Designer's
Teak" by Nevamar. Worked for me. . .

I'll tell ya what, if this Hurricane wipes me out, I'll take you up on
that! No Delta Force needed!

Gonna circle up everything in the middle of the parking lot tomorrow, Nate,
Thom & John will be inside. If we get 100+ winds, its going to be very
interesting. We'll be closed Wed., probobly?

Topped off the dumpster with 75 gal. of fuel, got 10 more in cans. If the
power goes off, I'm ready!!

I'm not sure what this is going to do to our time frame on Nates motor job,
Thom's coach was finished this evening so unless a tree falls on it, but
hey don't think about that!

Watch the news for flying motorhomes and you will know I've been hit! I'll
have a super rummage sale next week!

Have no fear, the storm did little to no damage here. Your coach was
inside right next to me beloved computer so it was as safe as it could be.
