Jabsco Pump

Well, I have fresh water working great now and looked at draining the waste
water. My '75 GB has been fitted w/a 18590-0010 Jabsco Macerator pump that
appears to be stuck. Just blows the fuse (20 amp) when I hit the switch.
Tried tapping it (lightly) to see if I could persuade it to loosen up but no
luck. Can these be rebuilt or is it replacement only? Saw a thread a while
back about a $99 deal but sounds like that's a goner by now.

Also there does not appear to be a gate valve between the tank and 3" dia.
(or so and about 3 foot long) hose that the pump connects to. Will the pump
hold back the flow when not in use or am I missing something here? Any
suggestion since I am new to the goo and don't want to get to know this any
better than I really have to....

Nate I still have the instructions that came with my macerator.
I will quote from them as follows.

"After long periods of nonuse, the flexible impeller may stick to the
pump body preventing the macerator pump from turning freely. If this
occurs, the impeller can be broken free by removing the plastic cap
on the shaft at the rear end of the motor, inserting a screwdriver in
the slot and rotating the shaft clockwise a quarter turn or more.
When the impeller is broken free, reinstall the plastic cap on the
motor shaft."

You might want to add: that you need a gate valve between the tank and the
mascerator.

Bob,
I did a search for JABSCO, MACERATOR and found a few sites. One had a .PDF
file on ALL their pumps so I got the one for 18590 and printed it out (4
nice pages w/diagrams which I sent to Gene). Said the samething and even has
ALL the part numbers and a rebuild kit. I'll check the price and see about
getting one AFTER I try your trick. Does yours stick occasionally? Thanks

You're welcome

When I dump I connect to a clear 8 ft length of plastic hose
or to two lengths if necessary so I can tell when the tank is
flushed and hoses are cleaned.

I always leave the macerator full of clean water and have
not had to un-jam the macerator yet.--------------fingers crossed.

Bummer! My Jabsco is evidently so old that it doesn't have the cap and
screw/shaft that the new ones do... I'll call them tomorrow to discuss the
options. Anyone seen a good price on these lately anywhere?
