So, I am putting Chaumière back together. When you have to change out the front frame, there is not much that does not get undone.

Where the steering shaft meets the Steering Box (I always call it a steering engine because that is part of my world) there is a Ujoint. One end of
that Cardan (aka Ujoint) goes on the spline of the streering engine (box) and it was loose and I was concerned. I was thinking of ways I might shim
this or do something to get that looseness gone. Then it occurred to me that Alex would know. I put a message out to him.

I got a message back from Lori that said Call Him. Then another that said, "Call me XXX-XXX-XXXX"

So I did.

His answer was that is not strange, just go and get a fine thread bolt and nut for it and make it up as tight as you can. Probably the reason you
can't get the slip shaft in and out is because it is full of grease. Take it apart and clean it......

Well, I did just that. A 7/16-20 Gr8 and a nylok nut and they may not have been cheap, but it did it.
I will pull the slip-shaft apart over the winter and clean it out.

That is one more thing I won't have to worry about for a while.

Matt,
When I bought the Murray and found the steering loose, that joint from the U-joint to the steering box was the first loose connection I found. No
amount of swearing could get that coarse thread bolt tight enough in that cramped space.

So I too bought a Grade 8 fine thread and self-locking nut. It was still a bear to tighten but it did the trick. That made a big difference.

I wonder how many coaches are running around with that joint loose (sloppy). I'm sure any coach that Alex touched is tight.

My Staff says I never listen to them, or something like that

Alex was doing inspections at a rally - Dothan I think - and when he came to my coach which drove quite well, he looked to make sure the steering
wheel was pointed straight and then opened the hatch and looked down for a moment. "Don't touch it". I never did, it drove well till I sold it.

He's a great guy....
Never seen him with a shirt on.. if I ever do, it will mean we're at a wedding or funeral... I guess we'll have to count the drunks. If it's one less
drunk, then it must be a funeral..

> Matt What length 7/16-20 GR8 bolt did you get?

Tom,

A 2" was great, that and a ESN (also Grd8) were about 1.25 at a local hardware.
