Inverter came my way

Bought a Xantrex 1750 watt pure sine wave inverter at the flea market yesterday. Couldn't refuse really, just $80.

I thought it would be a good thing to add to the coach but thinking about it, not really sure what the advantage of it would be and of course no idea
how or where I could cable it up to the existing system ...I don't have much in the way of appliances ATM, just the 2-way fridge and a microwave.
My computer runs and charges on 5v and the genset/alternator charge the vacuum and power tool batteries. I make coffee/tea on the gas range, old
school, boiling water. I did have a fantasy about moving my home music recording setup into the coach and I suppose that's what motivated me into
getting the inverter .. plus in the back of my mind there's always the solar thing, but if I go that way (solar) my battery system will need a a big
upgrade I should think.

So any advice/suggestions for installs/uses other that buy in haste repent at leisure? :roll:

I don't have anything that takes that amount of AC power - but two things that immediately came up when looking at a similar Xantrex spec sheet:

No load current draw:

It took some text in my email as a formatting directive! Here's another (slightly altered) try:

I don't have anything that takes that amount of AC power - but two things that immediately came up when looking at a similar Xantrex spec sheet:

- No load current draw: 0.65 A

- Recommended DC fuse: 200A

So - it's gonna need a VERY LARGE wire for the DC side and should be mounted relatively close to the batteries. The manual recommends a 1/0 AWG cable, no longer than 6 ft long.

The manufacturer's recommendations need to be followed as to wire size, fusing, etc. The idle current is indeed less than an amp. However, when using some common appliances, let's say a coffee maker (750 watts), the amp draw at 12 volts will be 62.5 amps minimum.
Be sure to use proper sized crimp on lugs if connecting to a stud. Do NOT solder the connection! There are available wire crimping tools available for loan if necessary.

Now that does make sense - thanks - short duration usage was something I hadn't thought about - firing up the genny to make a round of toast seems a
little inefficient for sure!

Maybe I will keep it after all, just have to figure out how to install it in the rig.

I think it's just an inverter.

My "charger" is an IOTA 55 converter which I just looked up again and see that I can plug an inexpensive module into it to suit whatever battery
system I'm running. I'll check my IOTA manual tomorrow to see what the heck the capabilities/plugabilities are.
I can see there's lots to learn, but hey WTF else do I have to do to occupy my retirement? :lol:

On further information I found out this isn't a pure sine wave unit - it's a modified sine wave one.

I'll be getting rid of it.

I have a modified square wave inverter with the converter and it runs everything without issue.
The only thing that i found to be a problem was a new electric blanket.
They have some kind of electronic sensing in them so it will not kill you. I had to buy a blanket that converts ac to dc. Kind of stupid dc to ac to
dc but it works.
Microwave tv and everything else I have work.
I wired it to all my AC outlets so I always have AC.

This is what I did:

You may need to rum larger cables directly to your house battery bank fot the larger inverter. I simply wired mine to the terminal in the electrical
cabinet.

There are several other more complicated ways to install an inverter including ones than involve transfer switches, etc, but why not keep it simple?
