G'Day from Australia.

I'm new to the list, hailing from Melbourne Australia. Fell in love with
the GMC when I worked for "The General" back in the 70s and the sales
brochures made it down under. Plans for GM to import the unit into Oz never
came to pass, which I reckon was a pity.

I'm looking at buying a GMC next year and shipping it back to Oz. Currently
I drive a British Bedford Autosleeper which I picked up in the UK two years
ago ... 4 cylinders and 4 gears have proven economic but not exactly quick
on the open road!!! At 70mph one is deafened by an overworked, overstressed
motor that wants to climb out of the engine bay! lol

The American motorhomes are far better suited to Oz conditions (even if
they do need the added expence of converting to RHD).

Anyway, thought I'd introduce myself and see what info I could pick up to
help me when the time comes to choose. So far I've learned a lot. Thanks.

Regards

Pieter

Thanks for the welcome. My minds already reeling with what I've read
already ... I just pity the poor sod who ends up offering to sell me his
rig when he sees my list of 'things to check'. If the list is big now,
think what it'll be like next year??? lol

Dual sticks? Now there's a thought. Some States allow LHD but after the
vehicle is 30 years old, it can be registered anywhere in Oz. Current
thought is to maybe save a bit of money by registering the rig interstate
until the 30 years is up. As I learn, I'm sure I'll come up with some
interesting alternatives!

Welcome Pieter!
You're going to be a long way from parts etc.
But at least useful information will be available
in almost real time via this forum.

Hello ,I joined the (net) a couple of weeks ago and I have enjoyed
reading all the different views.I myself am in the proccess of
restoring to life a 1974 GMC .Just finished the left hand boggie (new
bushings ,pins etc.).After the right hand I'm going to start on the
fuel system.Just wanted to say keep up the good work.

Thanks for the welcome, Richard.

No doubt I'll have to Ozify (hows that for a new word lol) where possible
and import where not. Eldest daughter has an immaculate Pontiac Fiero
(which Dad gets to drive every now and again heh heh) and we've found a
couple of places Stateside who will send us parts. Understandably, the GMC
is going to be a lot harder, but where there's a will there's a way. I
should add I have a garden full of older cars (Citroen, Audi, Renault Etc.)
and am getting quite adept at re-manufacturing parts! lol

And before you ask, yes I am still married (amazingly) though my wife has
threatened to walk out if I don't clear the garden before I dare bring home
yet another addition in the form of a GMC.

What is it with these women???

Another welcome, Pieter,

One question comes to mind, are we all married to the same woman? If so,
she gets around more than we do.

It seems it matters not which continent we're on but, when it comes to cars
& motorhomes, all women seem to have the one thing in common. Mind you my
wife is the last to refuse a holiday away. Seems they want their bread
buttered both sides. LOL
And thanks for the welcome, Roger.
