I have a friend in Vegas with digital dish, he can use it at home, at his
cabin in Utah or with his motorhome. You only need the phone line for pay
per view. Don't remember what service he subscribes to.

Both DirectPC and Dishnet are download services that require you to have an
upload link via ordinary phone line. DirectPC has had some service problems
over the last few years. As the number of subscribers has increased, DPC
has reduced the bandwidth pretty dramatically so that you are sometimes in
a worse position than if you just ran a 56k modem. I don't know about Dishnet.

Several companies are planning to introduce VSAT terminals this fall. These
will be 2-way Internet connections. I don't know what the actual
performance will be yet. Figure on $1000 in equipment above the cost of the
base satellite TV system and $50-100 service fee fro Internet.

Andy,
Dish needs a telephone for your computer to send info to dishnet. The
satellite then transmits the answer to your box.

Is anybody familiar with Dishnet or DirectPC or similar programs for direct
access to the internet from your GMC via satelite? Suppose to eliminate the
need for a hard wire telephone connection.

I guess I was dumb and talked about TV, BestBuy has DirectPC in their ad
today for $149.00 plus about $40.00 a month subscription. And Henry is
right, you still need a land line to upload.

It was more of an observation from my side for not reading the e-mail right
the first time.
Debating on a couple of coaches here in town as they look better or as good
as any I have looked at so far. One I think will go down the road now with
just new tires, the other is about what Arch took home but I don't have a
shed or the want to go completely thru one right now.

And the worst part is that you need to phone line to do anything.
