Interior window trim

Hello gang,

One of these days I'll figure out how to post a photo in here. The work I've done is pretty extensive starting from a gutted coach. I'm soon going to
have to change my signature from "gutted" to "getting there".

Anyway, I'm now on to panelling the walls. I've seen some posts regarding products used for around the window frames. Trim-Lok seems to be a popular
choice but it's difficult to acquire up here in the great white north - and expensive. I don't mind spending the bucks if the product is exactly what
I want but I'm unsure of the sizing and fitment as I don't have the factory stuff to compare too.

So question #1. Did the original trim fit inside the window channel, or just around the wall material? This will affect the grip width size I need to
order.

Question #2. Disregarding grip width; do we know of any products that have a similar leg length? Most I see are around 1/2" and it looks like factory
is closer to 1". I feel like 1/2" might not look quite right.

Oh, and to get extra picky, the wife wants white trim. :? I could paint if need be.

The aluminum around the window has a groove that the original trim’s tap fit into to hold it in place.
I think Jim Kanomata of Applied GMC might have some original trim available.

I did notice a very shallow groove. Maybe 1/16-1/8 deep. Good to know - I had hoped to tie the window frame and wall panelling together.

Well I called today. $6 USD per foot. $6 x 75 feet is $450 plus $50 for shipping I'm sure. That makes $500 plus duties, probably $100 at least. Thats
$600. After exchange, we are getting close to $900. That's a hard pass for me.

Anyone have any other alternatives??

IMHO, you need valences around your windows to keep their coverings tight
against the outer walls. Those conceal the edges of the wall panelling
enough that I didn't worry about finishing them -- and haven't regretted it
for 22 years.

You should be able to find original trim from someone parting out a GMC.
As to import duties isn’t there an exemption for antique vehicle parts?

There might not be any "duty" - but cross border shipments into Canada will have sales tax added (which allows the brokerage fee to also be added)!

But it's a "your mileage may vary" situation - sometimes things show up and have zero fees added! I've had fees added when not applicable - so I have to put in paperwork to get them refunded. It's a big PITA.

It's especially problematic when you're located on an island surrounded by a 20+ km moat (like myself!)... The moat was handy during 2020, however.

I spoke with Jim who passed me over to Nick.

It's hit and miss with the duties. More often than not, when I've ordered from Applied, I've been hit with duties (and brokerage fees as Rob
mentions). The packages are usually labelled "antique parts" or something similar.

I think I'm going to go the Trim-Lok route and abandon the idea that I'll be able to tie in the window frame. Ken brings up a good point, whatever is
done will be largely covered by window coverings.
