Interior Front Cap Headliner Removal?

Started chasing a leak and I need to remove the front cabin plastic headliner. I found a few threads on the restoration. I assume there is a "How To"
somewhere but I couldn't find one.

Can someone post up a link? Or just let me know the best removal steps?

Warm up your vocabulary. Check libation supplies. Start with rear view
mirror, proceed to sun visor of your choice. Proceed to unscrew the nut
that holds tension on the spring on central shaft. Swear, twist, swear,
twist, repeat until nut is free. Repeat on other side of coach. The rest is
self apparent. Remove speaker/light grills and remove hidden screws, unplug
harness connectors. Remove hidden screws in curtain tracks. Have someone
help lower the cap so it does not break. It will be quite brittle. Don't
think I left anything out. Oh, yeah, do not partake of libations until cap
is safely out. Then, relax with a cool one, or two.

Bryan,

Believe me, Jim's not kidding about those sun visor nuts. They will be
HARD to turn, right down to the very last degree. A hint:

1. Turn the wrench and the visor together in the desired direction
(Righty-Tighty/Lefty-Losey)
2. Hold what you've gained with the wrench while returning the visor to
where you started,
3. Move the wrench to match the visor.
4. Got to 1., preceding, MANY times.

Before you put it all back together, lubricate that spring, and wire brush
the threads. It will still be hard to assemble, but not as bad as during
removal.

Drexel tool with cut off wheel, or carbide burr. Be careful here. Work
slowly and precisely. Tedious work, but possible.

Bryan,

If you plan to install Guske cockpit blinds, now is the time to do it
because they use an different curtain rail. No use putting the original
back in only to take it back down for replacement.

Next Question...on each back corner of the headliner it looked notched. The back lip of the headliner was tucked on top of the roof support while the
piece that came down the side was outside the support. Is that factory or did someone do this as part of a previous reinstall?

Bryan, if that notch has the appearance of a factory cut, then it MIGHT be.
If you have a Royale or a Birchaven, they left the factory without any
interior except the front and rear caps. Upfitters did the headliners.
Someone like Jim Bounds might know more.

We have recently acquired the Guske shade business.
Three years ago we purchased their GMC coach. Now they have passed the shade business on to us.

Dont know if yours has it or not, but when I pulled my headliner down There were autographs on the underside from Vickie and Ida Dated 03-21-77.
Yup thats 40 years ago tomorrow.......

I signed my name and date last year next to theirs when I put it back up. Maybe in another 40 years Ill check it again.

I thought that was the BEST part of taking my headliner down for fresh paint.

That makes me wonder if the front and rear caps were supplied by GMC to the upfitters. Mine is an Eleganza II and yours was built by Coachman.

Bryan,

Hope U intend to insulate the roof areas after the leaks are found. It will feel warmer/cooler depending on the season.
Suggest to foam glue (and make measured notes) 1 or 2 wood blocks for the purpose of holding up
up the capon center area. Over time they do tend to sag a bit.
When reinstalling cap use SS screws.
