This is what I did...Five of mine broke off. I was
able to remove one after getting the heads off. I cut
a few bolt heads off with grinding disk.
Heres My previous post:
I Just got My engine parts back, Hears the Rundown on
what they did and what it cost me.
First off You should know..Previous to NAPA getting my
parts I had tried to clean and paint the intake manifold
on my own. After painting the manifold I placed it in the oven
in the kitchen. Bad Idea! The thing started smoking after about
two hours in the oven. The house smelled for days. To make matters
worse. The ceramic paint bubbled up and molted. Looking real splotchy.
I decided to take the parts to NAPA machine shop in Lansing,Mi
The Parts:
1. Intake Manifold >Painted Blue ( sort of )
2. Two Exhaust Manifolds >Very badly pitted
3. Two Cylinder Heads > Four broken Bolts, Both Pitted on Exhaust
side's, Three Bad valve guides
What They Did:
1: Cooked the intake manifold in an oven at 600 degrees for 6 hours
$20.00
2: Resurfaced exhaust manifolds for $15.00 each
$30.00
3: Remove four broken bolts in head, Install three heli-coils
$40.00
4: Recondition Two cylinder heads ( they are very clean )
$101.00
5: Surface Manifold sides
$60.00
They repaired three bad valve guides, Cleaned the heads and
I think cooked the heads with the intake manifold. I think
they did an excellent job.
What I suggest ( IMHO ):
If Your taking the exhaust manifolds off and your breaking bolts,
cut the bolt heads off, remove the exhaust manifolds and then
Remove the intake manifold and heads. It's really quite easy and
I think you will save time. It seems that a good machine shop will
save you alot of headaches. Let them remove the bolts. After which
they can do the same thing NAPA did.
I paid a total of $265.00 to do all that. $19.60 of that was for parts.
