I've used both the Foil based insulation (Reflectix) and foamed in
insulation. Foil is easy and quick, but it doesn't provide much sound
proofing. You can insulate areas without taking down ceilings etc. Foam is
a lot more work but is a better sound proofing materiaL I don't know what
the actual difference is in R values.

Sound proofing can make a big difference in the sound when driving - foam
acts as a dampener on the body skins - foil doesn't.

I used furnace insulation from McMaster Carr which doesnt burn held in place by
hangars from same supply. Basically 2x2 plates are glued to the ceiling with
construction adhesive which have pins through them. I covered the stuff with
Reflectix purchased from Home Depot. I get noise insulation and R-5 from the
insulation and moisture barrier and R-7 plus heat reflection from the
Reflectix. So far, so good. Nice and toasty.

Let me know if you need more information such as part numbers.

Icynene, I'm fairly sure of the spelling, I first saw it used on
"This Old House". I found a 'net site and ordered their brochure.
It was developed by NASA and it works as an excellent insulator and
as a
sound proofing material. It makes a room comparable to a sound proof
studio.
It also has a high fire rating and seals against water moisture.
It's also
light weight.
It is available as a spray on foam, available from some Home Depots
and
from a supplier.
It can be installed with or without the walls being removed and
fills all
voids.
Since it was developed by NASA for space shuttle's it sounds like
it is
worth checking out.
I used it on a railroad car to make a portable office for an
machinists engineer.
With a window a.c. unit it was as cold as a meat locker.

How do you contain the foam..... ie... how would we use it on the roof of
the GMC ??

It is not to be used on exposed surface's.
As a waterborne agent it's non-toxic. However because of the dust particles
when applied as well as up to the point when it's finished expanding and trimmed
to match the same distance as the ribs of the interior walls caution is important.

Using a different expansion rate than 1 to 1 it can be installed without
removing the walls as long as everything is securely attached
Make sure to use the proper breathing mask. Just as a for instance one of the
bonus's is that it's also a good insulator as for protecting people with
allergies.
Very safe but don't inhale or eat it :-). There are some really good sites
to find out more info by using any search engine such as Yahoo!
I'm not a salesman only a satisfied customer.
